Hello and thanks for the invitation to join the group. I have owned
three classic Minis with my current Countryman being the most unique.
Like Doug, I also have a classic that has been in the family for many
years. It's a 1960 Bugeye Sprite that my Dad parked when I was born
in 1974 because he couldn't transport the new family. A MK1 Mini
estate became the family car after that. My wife and I just
welcomed our first child in November and it only seemed fitting that I
follow my Dad's example and buy a wagon as well. If there is no Mini
in the garage, there is typically a classic BMW 2002. I do most of my
own work minus paint and body.

Take care,

Is that Mini on craigslist yours, Bradley? It said something about a
possible trade for a BMW 2002 so I wondered if it was you.

Cheers!

Hi Desmond,

The yellow 998 on craigslist is not mine but the 69 Countryman Woody
is. As much as I love the estate body style, there is a local 66
Cooper S that I am really interested in and I don't have room or money
for both.

I also found the mention of a 2002 interesting in the ad. A man after
my own heart.

Does Simon still run Flying Circus? I bought a few parts there when I
restored my Bugeye.

Take care,

Bradley

That's interesting about the craigslist ad. Maybe we have even _more_ Minis
in our midst! I'll send him or her an email in case the person wants to
sign-on to this list...

Flying Circus is actually Toby Briggs' business. Simon is Toby's brother
(half brother, technically) and he was a partner in the business, but Toby's
the guy who runs it. Simon has since left and now works at Apex Vintage
restoring cars and working with race cars. Simon's a great guy (as is Toby).

I met Simon at VIR last year. He was a nice enough guy but the nature
of his comments made it somewhat clear he wasn't comfortable talking
about Flying Circus. Still, he was a nice enough guy.

Bradley, where in Burlington are you located? I used to work at
Leesona off of Tucker Street Extension. I used to buy some of my used
parts for the GT6 from Butch McKenzie.

This is slightly personal, but I think it is appropriate for locals to know
what happened with a "breakup" in a local business that they might
patronize. If nothing else, it will clear the air in a positive way:

Simon and Toby agreed to disagree about business and Simon left. It strained
their relationship for a while, but knowing them both I think any "wounds"
are healing well now. It wasn't Simon's first choice to leave, but it seems
like it's all working out better than he may have anticipated.

The local MG club had a Tech Session at Apex Vintage where Simon now works.
It was very cool to see their setup and see what Simon was doing
(restorations, custom stuff) and to see the race cars!

Doug,

We are just off I40 on Alamance Road. It's only a few minutes from
the Tucker Street Extension via Hatchery Road. I know Butch (and
Eric) and he is a great guy. He and my Dad knew each other from the
dirt days at VIR. Dad ran a Morris Minor with Mickey Mouse painted on
the back.

To All,

I sold my 69 Countryman Woody today and am anxious to find someting
nice with a 1275 in it. I am looking at a 66 Cooper S but can't get
the price down to a comfortable level. If you guys see anything,
please let me know.

Thanks,

Bradley

Bradley,

What is your father's name? My father-in-law (Carl Zorowski) raced
Spitfires and his GT6 at VIR from the late 1960s until the track
closed in the 1970s. He now has a membership at the re-opened track
and we attend two events a year there where he races his Formula-Vee.
Our next race is a VDCA event happening Easter weekend.

It is a small world.

Doug,

My father's name is Richard Sulecki. He only raced in between the
main events at VIR.
