Saving changes to parameters

Sorry for such a basic question but ... when I change the parameters in the PGG to introduce a punishment, the parameter setting change doesn't save. My only options after changing the parameter, as far as I can see, are to click off the number input box and click 'back to current game' in the top left corner. When I do this, no punishment is introduced (and the same goes when I try to change other parameters).
