Hello

When considering scale with a MOOC, we can get to 100,000 students. I am working through the Introduction to Class2Go class which uses google docs. Even the most generous limit on sharing is 200.

Coursera recently experienced a failure when  an Instructor used a Google doc spreadsheet to organize groups.

At first glance, c2g’s use of google docs seems like a concern for scaling, is it?

Hi John,

Couple of comments:

(1) the document is set to "public" visibility, rather than explicitly shared with each user viewing it, and

(2) it's not a MOOC document - it's in the "how to use class2go" course, which we're picturing as used only by people setting up their own Class2Go courses.   So I think we've got plenty of time before we get tons of simultaneous viewers of that document.

Thanks for bringing up this question, but for this particular usage, my feeling is that we're ok.  (This is in contrast w/ the Georgia tech MOOC which did have 10's of thousands of students, and asked them all to edit the doc.)  Given that it's a read-only doc, if we start hitting limits wrt Gdocs, we can always present it as a static file w/in C2G.  But I think we're nowhere near there yet.

cheers,

Jane
