Hi players,

Counselor will not run if you upgrade your Java to a version newer than March 2025.

While Java 8 initially included JavaFX, it was removed in later updates. Oracle's support for JavaFX in Java 8 ended in March 2025, with the last builds including it released in April 2025. This means that updates of JDK/JRE 8 released after March 2025 may no longer include JavaFX.

I am working to remove the JavaFX dependencies, which are mostly the graphs and a couple of things.

Meanwhile, if you download Java, you will be stuck. Nothing I can do other than sending you an old Java version to install.

I'll publish a new Counselor as soon as the work is ready. Then the Counselor will run with the newest versions.

Thanks Ken for suffering first.

Cheers,
John

Hi John

I have a question:  will counselor keep running on the old Java version?

I'd prefer not to change anything since it's working now. :))

Oi Joao,

Yes, no need to rush if you don't upgrade your java.
If you stay on old Java versions, Counselor should still work fine. If you upgrade the Counselor or not.

My urgent reaction is because many people have auto updates on computers... If your java updates, then Counselor will stop working. Then you get the new one.

I have a program that's important to me and my community that relies on FX. :-(
What is Java replacing FX with?

They dropped support without replacing
There are options to install JavaFX such as Azul but not bundled with Java anymore.
Since Oracle dropped support a few year ago for its Java (11, 16, etc) they have been focusing on the backend.

I was hoping that the community Java would stick with JavaFX.

Well, that’s life.

Cheers
