I'm trying to add my Gmail account into Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise Outlook version 2104 build 13929.20254 Click-to-run 64 bit. I go to File --> Add Account --> enter my gmail.com address and click connect. Another screen pops up with my email address pre-populated and I click Next, which brings me to this screen:
Couldn't sign you in

We've modified a lot of Windows Internet Settings, but I can access Gmail through IE and my default Edge Chromium browser. So why doesn't it work when accessed through Outlook? Outlook appears to be using some version of IE instead of my default Edge browser. Does anyone know why that is, or exactly what setting needs to be enabled for this to work?
I was able to go here: and turn on access to less secure apps while I signed in. Once sign in completed and Outlook started populating with data, I closed Outlook, turned off access to less secure apps, and I still had my gmail syncing.
Was getting the same insecure browser error in Outlook 365 when trying to add a Gmail account. What worked for me was to go to this link which alerts your Google account you're about to add a new device or app to it. Once clicking Continue, go to Outlook and try adding the Gmail account again. This should work.
Edit August 2023 -- That link no longer appears to work. This error still occurs in Outlook 365 for Windows sometimes when trying to add a Gmail account, but I think I've finally found a definitive solution -- just keep trying over and over and eventually you'll get to the Google password screen. I find it takes about 4 or 5 tries, but I can repeat this success if I stick with it. Once you get prompted for your Gmail password, you're in the clear. Enter the password associated with the mail account and hit next. If you have TFA enabled you'll need to authorize the sign-in and then allow Outlook access, and that's it.
Actually its an issue inside microsoft edge not in your outlook... First you need to go to your computer Settings > Default Apps > Default Browser and then select Microsoft Edge as your default browser,
if you already have Microsoft Edge as your default browser then you can skip this step... After doing this, now go to Microsoft Edge and Type this text below in the address bar....
welp, the Custom OMA - URI - ./Device/AllowAddingNonMicrosoftAccountsManually solution we found doesn't seem to be working any longer. alexpawlak's solution may be working so far, but I want to test for a day or two to be sure things don't stop working again.
No. This issue is not resolved. We cannot add a Gmail account to any Outlook profile on corporate computers, but we can add the same Gmail account to a non-corporate computer, so we know it's related to the IT settings we set and not the Gmail Account. The problem is still that we don't know exactly what setting is causing this issue, why the setting doesn't prevent Gmail login in the Full IE browser but it prevents it in the mini Outlook Authentication browser, or why Outlook even still seems to use the mini IE browser instead of the Computer's default browser (in my case that's Edge Chromium).
@duyluong
Tried the above setting still getting the error.
However I am sure that the credentials I have provided are correct. I am able to login into web outlook365 using this credentials but it asks the authentication via text msg or phone. Is that causing the issue?

I tried to delete all the authentication methods present under Settings -> Security Info in outlook365. There is no option to disable it and when I deleted all the options and tried to login again into Web outlook it does not allow me to Sign-in without creating the authentication method.
This is probably due to security reason of our Organization, can I not use this emailing facility of Katalon Studio without disabling the two factor authentication in outlook365?
@Lewis-H @duyluong
I checked the settings in Gmail it is already enabled, however I am unable to send an email from my outlook365 id(Gmail to and from is working fine)
Getting below error due to two factor authentication for outlook365 in our organization
And due to security reasons we cannot skip this step
So many thanks with all the great responses, I have been messing with different memcache setups and various things in this install, so will go for another clean install and check the outlook.com then try gmail@work again.
Prob have to do some reading as its not a @gmail.com domain but uses gmail.
Also just as a trial not done any of the database or php config its all default php7.0
No # Header always set Strict-Transport-Security "max-age=15768000; preload" as you will see its remarked out.
No mem cache or redis either, I did have redis only as a distributed mem cache as it complained like hell but that was just another trial.
Connected straight away and the mail app is very much like the PDF viewer, excellent app, really good.
The initial sync took about 30 secs, the initial swirl to open inbox about 5 and the current message 10 secs max.
Hey Stuart, i was having similar troubles, as i use two step verification on my google account. The way that i got the nextcloud emailing feature to work was to make an app specific password for my nextcloud server by going to my google account settings and adding the application. Google then creates a password, which i used for the nextcloud server login (while keeping my typical username credentials the same). i hope this works for you too.
Also if you are sane and maybe just use a normal landscape monitor, it would be great if the mail app could buffer a page of emails, so it is one page in front.
To scroll down to the bottom of the emails and then grab the next page makes the mail app quite slow to use, but that is only a small quibble.
Here are the steps I documented to configure the NextCloud eMail app to work with GMail. I had similar issues on multiple GMail accounts, and these various scenarios helped me work through them. Hopefully they will help you.
I have the same issue, impossible to connect to gmail.
I have less secure app enable, simple password, imap is open.
It should work, but it doesnt, someone is able to make it work with gmail or is it not possible ?

Added the All Mail folder to the IMAP folders listed in Outlook. Cycled subscribe/unsubscribe connection to mail server to reset sync. Verified that Outlook settings show it is subscribed to the All Mail folder.
My research for this revealed this problem has existed with numerous versions of Outlook since 2013 (maybe before) to Microsoft 365. Many of these postings were at Microsoft forums and no solution was ever found and the older threads were closed.
I believe that having Outlook not able to actually delete an email from the mail server is by design because Outlook does not create the All Mail IMAP folder with creation of the IMAP account and if the All Mail folder is created and connected to the server it limits its function to only viewing the mail server folder and prevents deletion of emails on the server.
I hope someone that knows how to make Outlook delete the emails in the All Mail folder or at least explain how the All Mail IMAP folder in Outlook can sync enough to download the emails in that folder on the server but unable to delete the emails in the server folder thru that sync which is supposed to be bi-directional.
That web page and article has a nice gem mixed in with the main topic, a quick way to access the Gmail web site already logged on (the link in the article). I used the link to create a shortcut so one click and the Gmail web site opens to my account and emails.
So I tried changing the imap setting in gmail to auto-expunge off and move message to trash. I also have set Outlook 2021 to purge items when switching folders online as indicated in the article above. When I delete emails from gmail all mail, they show up in trash and they also show up in Outlook trash. So I have to not only go thru the now 4500 all mail emails and select the ones to be deleted, I have to then delete them from gmail trash and then from outlook trash. There has got to be a better solution than this. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thank you

Customer support could provide no help whatsoever except to say that "engineers have been working on the email system." I think reliable email, although supposedly "free" is a feature that Spectrum customers depend on.
Thanks for trying to help me. I finally figured out what I needed to do by trial and error. I left everything as it was, same incoming mail pop-server, same outgoing mail smtp -server, etc. However, I needed to make these changes.
Not unexpected, all things considered. Start with incoming. If account settings in the email app has a stand-alone user name field, that's probably now going to need to be your full email address just like the email address field. The email server hostname will probably now need to be mail.twc.com in your case. Don't change from POP3 to IMAP unless and until you know the ramifications but make sure the POP3 port is 995 and the encryption protocol is TLS (any problems, try SSL instead, depending on how old the email app is.)
For outgoing, stick with same as incoming if such default is prevailing and then go into advanced settings and make sure it's still SMTP and change the port to 587 and the encryption to TLS. In any case, the username and email address and password and hostname need to be same as for incoming.
