HARARE, Zimbabwe, May 8 (UPI) -- Seven million people in
Zimbabwe are in need of food aid, the BBC reported Saturday.
The United Nations has said Zimbabwe refused to allow U.N.
staff to assess the state of the country's crops and food stocks.
The Zimbabwean government produced a crop projection in
March that aid agencies dismissed as impossibly high, the BBC said.
A former food exporter, Zimbabwe has had to rely on foreign
aid since it began controversial land reform by taking land from
white commercial farmers.
International donors refused to promise more aid until
reliable information was forthcoming.
