FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- A jury that convicted a teen-ager of
hiring her boyfriend and another teen to kill her millionaire
parents must now decide if she deserves to die.
Kristi Koslow, 19, was found guilty of murder Wednesday for the
death of her stepmother, oil heiress Caren Koslow. Prosecutors said
she wanted her adoptive parents' fortune.
The jury was to begin considering today whether to recommend a
life sentence or execution by injection.
Jack Koslow, who survived the 1992 attack, has said his adoptive
daughter deserves to die.
There are four women currently on Texas' Death Row. The last
woman executed in Texas was hanged in 1863 for murdering a horse
trader.
Ms. Koslow's boyfriend and another teen told authorities that
they broke down the couple's bedroom door and attacked them with a
metal pry bar and a knife. The attackers were 19 at the time.
Dillingham beat the couple unconscious, then Salter cut their
throats, they told police. Both were convicted in the case.
Dillingham was sentenced to death; Salter received a life sentence
in a plea agreement.
Salter testified that Ms. Koslow plotted the murders, supplied
him with a map of the house and gave him the code to the burglar
alarm.
Salter said he and Ms. Koslow shopped for the cars they planned
to buy with the inheritance: a BMW convertible for her and a Toyota
Land Cruiser for him.
In his closing argument, prosecutor Alan Levy said Ms. Koslow
hated her stepmother, whom she referred to as her ``stepmonster.''
Ms. Koslow's lawyers said she was coerced into confessing.
