FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- A teen-ager was found guilty Wednesday
of plotting to kill her millionaire father and stepmother for the
inheritance money.
Jurors deliberated a litte more than three hours before
convicting 19-year-old Kristi Koslow of murder. She faces life in
prison or execution by injection.
Her stepmother, 40-year-old oil heiress Caren Koslow, was killed
while the teen's father, Jack Koslow, survived having his throat
slashed in the March 1992 attack.
Ms. Koslow's face reddened as she heard the verdict, and her
mother wept openly.
Her father, in court for final arguments Wednesday, refused to
comment after the verdict. Previously, he has said his adopted
daughter deserves the death penalty. ``That's what she gave
Caren,'' he said.
The pudgy, brown-haired teen was charged with soliciting her
boyfriend and another teen-ager to carry out the attack at her
parent's home.
In final arguments, prosecutor Alan Levy called her a woman
``consumed by hate'' for the victim, whom she referred to as her
``stepmonster.''
Defense lawyer Mark Daniel argued his client ``does not have the
intellect or maturity to organize a rock fight.''
The jury begins work on Thursday to determine her punishment.
Barely 17 at the time of the assault, she could become only the
fifth woman on Texas' death row. The last woman executed in the
state was hanged in 1863 for murdering a horse trader.
Despite his injuries, Koslow was the prime suspect for two weeks
until an informant's tip led police to his daughter. Koslow was a
key trial witness.
Ms. Koslow's former boyfriend, Brian Salter, and Jeffrey
Dillingham, both 19 at the time of the attack, broke down the
couple's bedroom door and attacked with a metal pry bar and a
knife.
Dillingham beat the couple unconscious, then Salter cut their
throats, they told police. Both were convicted in the case and
Dillingham was sentenced to death. Salter received a life sentence
in a plea agreement.
Salter testified Ms. Koslow plotted the murders, supplied him
with a map of the house and gave him the home alarm code.
Prosecution witnesses said Ms. Koslow wanted her parents' money.
Salter said he and Ms. Koslow shopped for the cars they planned
to buy with the inheritance: a BMW convertible for her and a Toyota
Land Cruiser for him.
