Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a website by ranking high in the search results of a search engine. The higher a website ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that site will be visited by a user. Most Internet users do not have the time to go through pages and pages of search results, so where a site ranks in a search is essential for directing more traffic toward the site. SEO helps to ensure that a site is accessible to a search engine and improves the chances that the site will be found by the search engine.

Majority of a website traffic is driven by the search engines. A website can get a high ranking if its contents are considered relevant by the search engines. Therefore, inorder for search engines to find relevent content for their search results they send spider robots to analyze and index the site details. Complex algorithms are then used to determine if the site is useful and should be included in the search engines search results.
