SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 10 (UPI) -- Three small Japanese
hybrid gasoline-electric vehicles top the list of 10 most
fuel-efficient vehicles, says Edmunds.com, an automotive Web site.
Leading the pack was the Honda Insight, which gets 60 miles
per gallon. Toyota's Prius is number two and the Honda Civic Hybrid
ranked third.
The average fuel economy of 2004 vehicles driven 15,000
miles annually was 19 miles per gallon in cities and 26 mpg on
highways.
Owners of the most popular passenger sedans spent $1,013 a
year for fuel -- while owners of large trucks spent $1,874 annually.
A year's fuel averaged $1,310.
Volkswagen had three vehicles tied for 4th place, the Golf
TDI, Jetta TDI and New Beetle TDI, the Honda Civic HX was fifth,
Toyota Echo sixth, Toyota Corolla seventh, Scion xA and xB eighth
and ninth and tied for tenth were the Dodge Neon, Pontiac Vibe,
Toyota Celica GT and Toyota Matrix.
