DETROIT, May 4 (UPI) -- The General Motors Corp. in Detroit,
Mich., has reported April sales of 401,451 new cars and trucks, an
increase of 0.2 percent from one year ago.
GM's monthly sale figures were announced Tuesday, delayed by
one day because of a computer glitch that prevented dealers from
sending their sales figures until Monday afternoon.
GM sold 248,555 trucks, including 109,077 sport-utility
vehicles, up 1.5 percent from last year, and 152,896 cars, down 2
percent, the world's largest automaker said in a statement.
Sales of midsize passenger cars rose 3 percent with brisk
sales of Pontiac Grand Am and Grand Prix models. Sales of the
car-based Pontiac Vibe small SUV were up a strong 7 percent.
GM is introducing several new vehicles during the 2005 model
year, including the Pontiac G6, Buick LaCrosse, and Cadillac STS.
The auto industry is on pace to sell a seasonally adjusted
16.4 million new vehicles in 2004.
