NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 2004--The American Lawyer's
upcoming May issue celebrates the magazine's 25th year of in-depth
coverage of lawyers, law firms and the legal profession with a special
issue that examines past and future trends and personalities, and
introduces the magazine's inaugural list of Lifetime Achievement Award
winners. Highlights from the May issue, available to subscribers on
Monday, will be published on the Web at www.americanlawyer.com or
through www.law.com.
Since its founding in 1979, originally as a black & white tabloid
newspaper, The American Lawyer has won numerous journalism and
publishing awards, including four National Magazine Awards from the
American Society of Magazine Editors, and, most recently, two Jesse H.
Neal National Business Journalism Awards in March, 2004.
"Over the past 25 years, The American Lawyer has grown from a
maverick publication that firms were going to run out of town to a
maverick publication that firms turn to for honest, reliable and
sometimes uncomfortable information," said editor in chief Aric Press.
"We're glad to have made it this far and expect that our best years
are ahead of us."

Highlights from the magazine's May issue include:

-- "Almost a Revolution" -- a chronicle of the 20 biggest changes
in the legal business

-- "Not All Black And White" -- the stories of African-American
law graduates of Harvard and Howard universities from 1979,
'89, and '99

-- "The Next 25 Years" -- predictions from law's leaders

-- "Keeping Score" -- from billing rates to starting salaries, an
examination of 25 years of charting the fortunes of the
nation's biggest law firms, from the original Am Law 50 to
today's Am Law 100.

In addition, the magazine profiles the first winners of its
Lifetime Achievement Awards, recognizing accomplishments in business
and public service. Recipients include William Coleman, Jr., O'Melveny
& Myers; John Pickering and Lloyd Cutler, Wilmer Cutler Pickering;
Joseph Flom, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; Alexander Forger,
