Dear Colleagues,

I am sending you a link to a film that we have made about how The Trust for Developing Communities and our partner, The Hangleton and Knoll Project, tackle inequality through community development tools. We are very grateful to our two volunteer placements, Peter Deuk and Tamar Underhill, who have volunteered their expertise and time to make this film with us.

Through the voices of the people whose lives have changed as a result of our work, the film shows how our workers;

tackle discrimination, for example breaking down intolerance around language and cultural issues

overcome barriers and meet people's particular needs, such as enabling disabled people to access community buildings and events. or supporting people who experience isolation because of language or cultural barriers or health issues to build their confidence so that they have the skills to set up and run community groups, and make their voices heard.

build good relations between different groups, including promoting intergenerational understanding through joint events between Youth Forum’s and Older People’s clubs

So important to this process is the community development workers’ close relationship with people, understanding their communities and the challenges people face. At the heart of this, is supporting local people's capacity to find their own solutions.

We hope you enjoy it
