Sorry about the re-send of this. I was trying to send it to myself for moderation but that doesn’t appear to be an option!

Dear Residents Association,

The residents of Clarendon House were not asked nor gave consent for their bins to be removed to block Ellen Street for your ill-supported, unasked for street party.  Why block off our end of the street anyway?  There was no party west of Fonthill, that's for sure!

Surely highways required you to put other measures in place (as other street parties did)?

Please make the effort to at least return all our bins.  At the moment, you have returned 3 refuse bins and totally lost it as far as our recycling bins is concerned.  The glass communal recycling bin and one of the general recycling bins have been added to the bank of recycling bins at the public recycling point on the corner.  One of the public recycling point mixed recycling bins (with a lock on it) has been brought to the back of Clarendon House.  Why?  Another mixed recycling bin (two tin shaped holes) has been dragged up the front path of Clarendon House (we have it, plus the glass, plus the lid-opening bins at the back of Clarendon House).

What you have done is beyond selfish and contemptuous of resident needs, incompetent and has created refuse chaos behind Clarendon House.  SORT YOURSELVES OUT AND BRING BACK ALL OUR BINS!  Put them back where you nicked them from. And then clean up all the flying bits that are tumbling out of the one bin you left us with until noon today which ended up overfilled.

Thank you Liz.

I am in awe of the tremendously hard work that Alison and her street party sub group put in to making this event a success.

We will be pleased to assist with the sorting out of the bins now.

Firstly I want to say how wonderful that community spirit is alive and well in Hove. As some of you know I was born and brought up in Ellen St before the compulsory purchase of the house I lived in and the building of the flats. As a child I knew so many of my neighbours and it was a lovely friendly community.
So my admiration goes to those who organised the street party, not an easy task. This sort of event helps to encourage community spirit and good neighbourliness.
On to misplaced bins - a pleasant request for bins to be replaced would have been fine or a query as to where said bins were. I really am saddened that insults and accusations need to be used.

I hope more community events will be happening in the future.

Dear all,
I'm sorry to see that what should have been a positive community event has generated or released such ill feeling. I knocked on many doors on the estate and in Clarendon Road and most residents welcomed the idea. The others were neutral.
I know that a lot of hard work went into the event and I gather that residents who attended made new acquaintances. It can be difficult to get a community involved in events so I welcome this initiative.
I attended a meeting of the residents association recently where the street party was discussed; no opposition was raised at that point.
It is unfortunate that some communal bins ended up in the wrong place but I'm sure this can be sorted out.
I would suggest that we consider carefully before we send any more emails on this subject. It's very easy to say something in an email and very difficult to unsay it.
Yours faithfully,
Cllr Rob Jarrett.
