My fiancee and I are getting married in October and we are trying to come up with songs! We both grew up on and love the Metalcore, post hardcore, etc genres. It's always played a very big role in our relationship and we would love to include some songs that show that. Obviously we don't wanna "scare" grandma and the few kids that will be there, and also we will play an array of music because we know not EVERYONE will love what we love.
But for example our first dance will be Lune by Periphery. And we know we will also play Wake Up by Coheed. I also wanna get the Ed Sheeran Perfect cover by Asking Alexandria off of YouTube. But anything other suggestions are absolutely welcome! Even some classic rock songs if you can think of them. And I'll cross post this over to r/posthardcore too.
Bouquet tossing got a whole lot more interesting when Beyoncé dropped this 2008 smash. The sassy self-worth anthem and instant wedding staple makes unwed women the belles of the ball for three glorious minutes. At no point in the party will the dancing be fiercer. Listen here.

Over a year trying to get him to help pick out the personal things he has just not been part of. He didn't even know what songs we were dancing to till last night and didn't even listen to them. He then said he would pick out his mom and son song and spent hours trying to find the right one.
I doubt this is actually about the song.
Either you are stressing over wedding details and blowing this out of proportion or there are much deeper issues here (relationship issues) and instead of focusing on the real issues, you are focusing on the song. Talk to your FI and explain (calmly) how you feel. But don't compare his relationship with his mom to your relationship. Without knowing more details, I don't know if you are just freaking out over wedding stress or if it is a relationship issue.
I am a sucker for first dances at weddings. I get choked up watching these milestone moments at every single wedding. Songs are so tied to our emotions. It is hard to give specific suggestions on wedding first dance songs, father-daughter songs, or mother-son songs but I am going to give some any way!
Since becoming a mother to a little boy, I have to say that the mother-son songs get me good. I can imagine the day when I will be dancing with my son. At that time he will probably be taller than me. I daydream about what I will say to him and how happy he will be that day as he becomes a husband.
And then Cali Stars!! When we saw Jeff solo in Austin in 2007, my wife screamed out "Play California Stars it's our wedding song!" He actually said,"I should not encourage this kind of behavior", he then switched guitars and played California Stars!! The best moment of our lives!!
On 9 April 2018, Kesha released her song from the album, "I Need a Woman to Love" (a reworking of "I Need a Man to Love", originally sung by Janis Joplin on the album Cheap Thrills) with a video featuring Kesha officiating at a same-sex wedding.[5] The music video won Best Editing at the 2019 Webby Awards.
At our Indian wedding, we did our first dance to the Harry Connick Jr version of It had to be you (from When Harry met Sally) and then broke out into a choreographed Bollywood dance to Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire. Such fun memories!
Fast forward just about twenty years and my uncle was helping to arrange the music for my wedding ceremony. He hired a trumpet player to play the recessional and processional, but there was a point mid-ceremony that we needed a short bit of music for. We were doing a ring warming (everyone touches/blesses the rings and passes them up through the audience for the vows). My uncle said he would handle the minute or two of music needed so the audience could finish passing the rings.
Our second dance was even more personal though. We are from Scotland and we had traditional ceilidh dancing for the most part for our Wedding Dance and had a live Scottish Dance Band (who had also played at my Mum and Dads Wedding, 12 years before). Anyway, my Dad had also had a Scottish Dance Band, loved writing tunes for dances and hated speaking at events. He had been really nervous about making a speech at our wedding so I had said that Mum could do the speech and requested he wrote a tune for us that he would play at our wedding. He delighted me by writing a 4/4 March called Aileen and Mikes Wedding March which was a tune you can do a Gay Gordons to (one of my fave ceilidh dances _Gordons_(dance) )
The rest of the playlist was just a mix of songs we both loved, and included songs by bands like Air, Silver Jews (RIP David Berman), Flaming Lips, Blondie, Yo La Tengo, Lemonheads, The Hollies, The Beach Boys, Velvet Underground (RIP Lou Reed), etc.
Your first dance is one of the highlights of your wedding. The ceremony is over and everyone is relaxing at the party. This is your chance to have a special romantic moment with your partner before the craziness of the partying descends again.
Your first dance is a chance to take a step away from the planning, the crowds, the bustling energy of a wedding. Why not take the opportunity to slow things down by choosing a more relaxed, down-tempo first dance song.
The first dance is a wedding tradition where the couple dance together for the first time in front of their family and friends. It is often performed after the meal and marks the opening of the dance floor when other family and friends join them on the dancefloor for the rest of the evening.

Your wedding day will be one of the most important of your life and needs the perfect music to set the tone and get everyone in the mood. At the end you'll find our 100 favourite wedding songs of all time, all made into an easy Spotify playlist just for you.
Whether you want a classic, romantic first dance or something more alternative, there's a track for you. When you're choosing, think about the kind of dance you'll feel most comfortable doing in front of your guests - a simple slow dance suits some couples, but others may feel more confident going upbeat. It's nice to agree on a genre you both enjoy - rock, country, R&B pop - as after all, this is going to be officially 'your song' after the wedding!
As well as the entrance or processional music, there are other opportunities to include your favourite songs in your wedding ceremony. You could have a performance of a piece you love by a singer or choir, for example, and have music playing while you're signing the register, as well as choosing tracks to play while your guests are arriving. Many couples also opt for exit music as they leave the ceremony venue.
When you're putting together a playlist of songs for your wedding breakfast, remember that what you're looking for is background music. Your guests will be chatting away as they tuck into their food, so look for relaxed tracks. That being said, you don't have to go bland with your wedding breakfast songs; pick the music you love, just maybe save the dance anthems for later on.
If you want to get guests dancing, familiarity is key. You can certainly play folktronic or vaporwave if those are the musical genres you love, but to create a party mood at your wedding, add some sing-along tracks, both contemporary and classic, to really fill that dance floor.
