Update a bedroom with an on-trend color palette and this pretty queen size quilt pattern. The Peek of Sunshine queen size quilt features sunny yellows and cool grays for a fresh modern take on a traditional patchwork design.

Taste the delicious black tea base with a smooth citrus character that carries intriguing hints of passion fruit. Start your day with sunshine in a cup and invigorate your senses with this uplifting blend. Remember with each sip that every day is a new story, and you have the power to write your own narrative.

For those of you who have submitted interest on my website in being featured, I am slowly making my way through them all and hope to have caught up by the end of the week. Thank you for your patience!

One of the best parts of starting this newsletter – probably the best, if I’m honest – has been getting to hear from so many brilliant creators and writers about the things that make them the happiest. I thought the biggest benefit of the Substack would be that I was delivering sunshine to the inboxes of others, but the joyful emails I have received corresponding with creatives wanting to share the sources of their own happiness have been divine. It’s a reminder that a project like this one is a living, growing thing that can will change over time, even in the perspective of its creator. And that’s exciting!

Kimberly Coburn is our featured writer this week! Kimberly’s work has been featured in Salon and The Bitter Southerner among other publications and she has recently launched a Substack entitled for “curious idea collectors.” (Who doesn’t want to be one of those?)

In her words: “Inspired by Joan Didion’s quote on her own journals – “What kind of magpie keeps this notebook?” – the newsletter offers musings on whatever shiny object happens to be rattling around my skullbox: so probably craft and craftsmanship, the wild revelations of the natural world, how we commune with our ghosts. Nbd. Come get cozy in this strange nest full of trash and treasure with me.”

I lived in walking distance of my grandmother’s house and would spend endless summer hours playing with her dogs – a regal collie named Bo and some kind of Irish Setter mixed mutt named Toby – getting pruney fingers from staying in the pool too long, drinking cream soda, and catching (and safely releasing) fistfuls of lightning bugs at dusk. Kinda hard to top that.

I could recite all of Labyrinth from owl-flanked beginning to end. I’ve also got a soft spot for classic TV like Golden Girls, Cheers, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Taxi. Over The Garden Wall is my favorite narcotic (and did you know it mirrors Dante’s Inferno??)

Usually getting out into nature helps – especially if any fruit is in season and you can go pick it. Cuddling animals within an inch of their patience. And sometimes you just gotta hit the reset button and take a nap.

What a fantastic question – and the honest answer is: all of it. This place is seriously wall-to-wall miracles and each one of us a lottery winner just to be here to experience it all. I mean, I have hot garbage days like anyone, but remembering what a remarkable thing it is that, in all this space, we’re here, together, experiencing cinnamon and fuzzy bee butts sticking out of flowers and boundless love and grief. It’s a pretty wild and delightful ride

Mother’s Day was a delight! My kids – even the littlest – were masterful in their sweet devotions, I got to see and celebrate the women who helped shape me growing up, and we had Chinese takeout for dinner. Wins all around.

Samantha Irby’s latest book, Quietly Hostile, came out! Samantha is the opposite of me in so many ways, (my corresponding book would probably be titled Cloyingly Friendly) but her raunchy, no-holds-barred, anxiety-fueled books – particularly when I listen to her reading them – always crack me up. Now that I think about it, grumpy X sunshine is my favorite dynamic, so this makes sense.

I passed 40,000 followers on Instagram! Instagram is my favorite social media platform, i.e. the one I am most likely to get sucked into the vortex of continuous scrolling on. This meant that when I was working on my MFA, it was the one I had to dial back my use of so that I could achieve something outside of the internet. Once I finished up that a week or so ago, though, I gave myself cart blanche to spend as much time there as I liked (okay, within reason), and it’s been such a pleasure to be back and growing!

I’ve been working for Bookshop.org creating a social media strategy for their Facebook page, and it’s been incredibly satisfying being able to have something tangible and worthy to offer this company I have so much love for. I’m grateful I get to be a part of their team, even if it is in this tiny capacity.

The 1940 Rose Queen, Margaret Huntley Main, was the longest living queen at 102 years old. She died in late November. From Northern California, she watched Stillitano be crowned live on the Tournament of Roses YouTube channel.

Stillitano and the 2024 Rose Court will attend numerous community and media functions, serving as ambassadors of the Tournament of Roses, the Pasadena community, and the greater Los Angeles area. Each Royal Court member receives a $7,500 educational scholarship from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses.

With the goal to create her own fashion brand, Stillitano is interested in studying fashion design and marketing at Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Milano Fashion Institute, Pasadena City College or the University of Southern California.

Our dear queen, she was hurting big time this episode. She had made her decision and there was no going back, no matter how much she wanted to stay with Amae because that was clearer than 20/20 vision. But she was mad, devastated really, about what happened with Isaac and she needed time. So she took it. Elida took on another mission, all the while thinking about how alone she was the first time around when she lost her mother.
