My mother is a Grant from Cut Knife, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Her Father: Gordon Angus Grant, b. 22 Jul 1907 Tupper Manitoba
Grandfather: Angus Grant, b. 28 Jul 1872 Puslinch, Ontario
GGrandfather: Peter Grant, b. 21 Oct 1840 Puslinch, Ontario
GGGrandfather: Peter Grant, b. 3 Dec 1795, Duthil & Rothiemurchus, Inverness, Scotland
These details are certain.

This Peter Grant moved from Fernsdale estate, Badenoch, Scotland to Badenoch (now Puslinch), Ontario, Canada (see small part of story below)

From Badenoch, Scotland to Badenoch, Ontario: page 43, In 1831, Donald McLean (age 25), Peter Grant (35), Donald Martin (35), John Kennedy (23) and Catherine (32) and her husband, Alexander McBain (32) left the Highlands of Badenoch and sailed from Greenock, near Glasgow, to Montreal. The four latter remained in Glengarry for the first winter.

What was called Badenoch is now southeastern Puslinch Township, Wellington County.  1833, Donald McLean’s parents, Peter and Margaret McLean and their family, the John and William Clark familes, and the Kennedy family arrived.  More friends and relatives (around 100 in all) followed the same year and in the next few years most of the land on Concessions Rear of 8, whole of 9, 10, and 11 from Lots 26 to 38 was settled.  They chopped down the forests and established their farms and industries, which was a dangerous activity.  There is a memorial cairn in Scotland built by those emigrating to Canada.

Quote of Donald Grant, son of Peter Sr, “My father, the late Peter Grant, of Fernsdale, who had some taste for genealogy, traced his descent through five generations in a direct male line from Grant of Rothiemurchus, while the Mcleans who came originally from the west coast claimed kinship through a younger son with the House of Duart.”  According to Donald, Peter was a omnivorous reader - interested in historical, theological and political lore.

Puslinch Township History - Badenoch Centennial 183201967  http://www.clarksotomfad.ca/BadenochCentennial1832-1967.htm

Peter's father may have been Alexander Grant, b. 3 Mar 1774, Duthil & Rothiemurchus, Inverness, Scotland
Peter's grandfather may have been James Grant, b. 2 Dec 1754.
Peter's great grandfather may have been James Grant, b. 14 Feb 1720. Mucksrack.

I'm missing two generations by name to tie into the Grants of Rothiemurchus.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've been to all the Canadian grave sites and have extensive info on this family line.

Hello Patricia

As volunteer webmaster of clangrantcanada.ca, thank you so much for sharing your histories of the Grants in Canada.

We have been hoping to include the Grants who settled in Eastern Canada on our website and we are so glad you have joined our Google Group. Since one of our family members (descendants of Fur Trader William Grant of Trois Rivieres) is a Peter Grant, it was particularly amazing to see all those Peter Grants you mentioned.

We would like to put your information on our website. Would you be able to send more information about some of the people you mentioned and star the individuals you think we should include as "Notable Grants."

Also, I would like to put the link to the Badenoch Centennial into our Bibliography but I couldn't get it to work. Could you help with that? If you know of any other Grant links, please let us know about them too.

Many thanks,  Penny Grant

I have considerable information on my clam of grant  for 7 generations: If interested here is the details on the on the first generation..

1.  JOHN1 GRANT was born Abt. 1767 in Strathglass, Scotland, and died in Black River, Ant. Co., NS.  He married CATHERINE FRASER.  She was born Abt. 1771 in Strathglass, Scotland.

Notes for JOHN GRANT:

It is probable but not certain that John Grant and his wife Catherine (Fraser) immigrated in 1801 on the "Sarah of Liverpool" from Strathglass, Scotland to Pictou.  They are listed with 4 children; James 10, John 8, Alexander 6 and Donald 4.  The dob for these children matches the death records for the same.

Comment: Donald's death gives parent's names

Children of JOHN GRANT and CATHERINE FRASER are:

2.                i.    JAMES2 GRANT, b. 1791, Strathglass, Scotland; d. 1831, Halifax, NS.

Is this of any intereste? James Grant

Hi, Patricia,
This is very interesting. I'm not certain I can help with this family's genealogy; hopefully, other readers will.  You mentioned these Grants sailing from Greenock. This is the same port many Scottish recruits of the Canadian fur trade sailed from when making their initial journey to America.  Do you know which ship they sailed on, or the dates they departed?
