Most of the information we have of our relationship with the Glenmoriston Grants comes from the book, "Days Into Decades".
I've included info from the book, tracing to my grandmother. At the back of the book, there is quite a detailed listing of all of the relations related to her siblings, including the males. Some of Cynthia's brothers settled in New Liskeard, Ontario where there is quite the Grant presence.

The book is filled with anecdotes and stories pertaining to all who came through Peter and Nina.
All responses appreciated.

p.31 - the Muster Roll of Prince Charles Stuarts'Army 1745-46,lists 9 John Grants from Glenmoriston, all of whom were taken prisoner and transported. One was Big John Robber, known in Gaelic as Ian Mohr na Cathern....It would be 14 years before Big John was set free and allowed to return to Scotland...

p.36 - The Pearl was one of the sailing vessels making regular trips across the Atlantic.

p.37 - A year later (1773) the Pearl once again set firth for America with a large party of Highlanders on board, including a number of families from Glengarry and Glenmoriston. Amoung the family of Grants aboard the Pearl that fall was that of Big John the Robber...his son Angus was in charge of the family party. Hello,

This is my first email to the group, so hopefully this works.  I am quite new to my research of the Grants although much has been done by my husband’s grandfather before he passed in the 1980s.  He is a Glengarry Grant (from the Front) with origins in Glenmoriston.  All of this wonderful information is absolutely amazing me!

Where can I find copies of the books that have been mentioned?  I am contemplating joining ancestry.ca to enter our family information to see if anyone can fill in the blanks.  I am most curious about an ancestor known as Sandy Cinq.

Thank you for all of the information you all share.

Stephanie

Hi, Stephanie,
A good tip for finding any book, is to first check with your local bookstores. They might have it. If not they may be able to order it for you. If it's an out of print book they may be able to find it for you. Amazon is another good place to search for in print and out of print books. For other sellers, "Google it".  Good luck.

Hello,

I am Marilyn Silva, 1st cousin 4x removed of John Francis "Johnny" Grant.  I am related through the Breland line. Johnny's maternal grandparents, Pierre Duboishue Breland, (1758-1829) and Marie Louise Bilidau Belley, (1785-1836), are my 4x maternal great grandparents. His uncle, Pascal Breland, (1811-1896), married Marie Rose Grant, (1820-1889). According to the information I have on my tree, I can trace her line, and Johnny's father, Richard Grant, (1794-1862), back to Donald Grant, (1671-1738), and Henrietta Cuthbert, (1690-?), in Scotland. Can anyone tell me if this is correct? Thank-you in advance for any and all information. I look forward to hearing from you.
Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,
I can't help you with your lineage, however Johnny Grant's Mother is my Great Great Great Grandmother, and since she passed away early on in life, I know very little about the Breland side of my family.. would love to know more?
Best Regards
Elaine

Hi Anita,

Thanks but I have already tried those routes. I was looking more for a small bookstore in the region, perhaps Ottawa, where someone might be able to find small family history books.  We used to have The Sanctuary in Cornwall but no longer do.

Thank you
Stephanie

Hi, Marilyn.
Anita Steele here. I think we may have corresponded briefly in the past?
I'm a descendant of Johnny Grant's oldest brother, Richard Stanislas Grant. There's actually a lot of info on our Grants. And a lot of unknowns. Some recent 'discoveries' are going to add a LOT more. What I can say here is that the earliest proven ancestor of Richard Grant  is John Grant in Inverlochy. It's thought that a Donald Grant in or of Inverlochy may be his father, but that conclusion hasn't yet been reached. At this point, John's mother is definitely unknown.  Pascal's wife was the daughter of Warden of the Plains Cuthbert Grant. According to the DNA, our Grants are the same line as the Chiefs of Grant, descending from Robert the Ambassador. We are, therefore, a cadet branch of the Chiefs.  In 2010, the current Chief of Grant, Sir James Grant, came to Winnipeg to make the Cuthbert Grant family a Sept of Clan Grant.  At the same time, he attended our reunion and named us the MacRobbie Grants of Trois-Rivieres.  According to the DNA, there is no relationship between Cuthbert's Grants & our Grants, but as you correctly point out, we are related by marriage.  If you're interested in viewing some biographies and pictures of our Grants and some of their connections you may be interested in viewing my site: http://william-grant-of-trois-rivieres-genealogy.ca/index.html    Under Charts  you'll also find a small one of Cuthbert Grant's lineage.
An interesting note about Louise - she is better known as Louise Umphreville. She was a very powerful influence and secondly married John Rowand, Factor of Fort Edmonton, and had several more children. Which is how Richard Grant came to meet and marry Marie Anne Breland.  More charts on my site.
Thanks for your post, Marilyn!  I hope this helps. I'd be interested in knowing more about your lineage.
Anita
