After John Grant of Lachine died 1817, his son Robert Grant of Lachine ran the shipping business, and he partnered with another of his uncle Peter Grant of Lachine's 1st cousins who was the Honourable Alexander Grant of L'Orignal on the Ottawa River where he ran a Trading Post called Duldraeggan Hall, and with this Alexander's good friend John MacDonell Jr. of Scotus who ran a Trading Post near Pointe Fortune on the Ottawa River [he was son of Spanish John McDonell of Scotus 1728 1810, and a brother of Miles McDonell the 1st Governor of Assiniboia and author of the Pemmican Proclamation].
These were very well connected [and related] folks. Cheers J.
