Okay, so I downloaded the BFG app and successfully installed it. Initially I was able to open it using right-click>open>open. The app launches without complaint BUT does immediately CRASH. After several attempts at relaunching, including a restart of the Mac and another download copy I am unable to successfully launch the app. Also found an uninstaller app at BFG and used that to uninstall the app then reinstall without success. BFG app consistently crashed at launch.
Unfortunately, after several more attempts to launch the app, including more uninstalls, restarts and after downloading and relocating two .db files (several times), I was only able to get to a big blank unresponsive window that hangs and invokes the Mac's infamous beachball. ?
The good news is I finally did get success. Using version 3.2.0.8 only, and the steps found at the link above, including downloading and relocating those two .db files, I have launched BFG app successfully. And it's complete with the warning that there are issues (STILL?) with Catalina and Big Sur.
So, this is not an Apple issue. BFG haven't done due diligence with the app and are doing a disservice to their users. I've looked at BFG several times before and was unimpressed with the way the games must be launched with this "manager" app. Their installer package and process is obviously sloppy, as is the first run of their uninstaller as it doesn't conform to higher standards. So many first rate app developers have figured out the process, why not BFG? Whatever you've been paying Big Fish Games for their product is too much!
I purchased them from Big Fish Games, but Apple will not allow them to run on Catalina. Excuse was they only had 32 bit games. Big Fish then developed and put out 64 bit games, but Apple won't recognize them. Apple wants us to only buy the games supplied through the App Store.
No, I haven't installed or run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", or any anti-virus apps. Whatever virus apps that were installed were already installed when I bought this computer. I haven't changed anything on it.
What do you mean Apple "won't recognize them"? Control (right) - click on the game and select "Open" from the contextual menu. Then click on Open in the next window. That should open the game from then on.
The workaround (From Big Fish) was to reinstall the application...they also gave the workaround to go to apps, click "open" on the game. I went to reinstall the app, and the message reads this developer is not recognized.
A lot of people got ****** about issues like this because they didn't understand the repercussions of the 32-bit disqualification that came with macOS Catalina. Developers like Big Fish had almost a decade of warning that 32-bit apps were on their way out at Apple.
I think I'd be directing my displeasure at Big Fish and their development team. I've visited the Big Fish websites and to be honest, their lack of clarity about system requirements for their software is astounding. Can you confirm that Big Fish's 64-bit Game Manager can be installed on the older macOS; that it doesn't require Catalina or newer? I couldn't, and I spent more time researching this than I should have.
Yes, I understand that Big Fish was warned about this a long time ago. But, they did finally step up and make 64 bit games. The problem is now, that Apple will not recognize the developer, and will not let you reinstall the app. I even called Apple customer support, and they told me the same thing.
Yes, if I hadn't have broken my older MacPro that was pre Catalina, I would still be able to play the games on that computer. So, I guess my question now is....Is there and operating system besides Catalina or Big Sur that will support Big Fish Games?
If you'd care to give an example of a particular game or two that is giving you grief, I'd be happy to see if I can download and install the package on my Catalina MacBook. I'm aware of the Big Fish Games manager app, (haven't tried to install that) and I know they have many games proper.
It is not so much that Apple is not allowing you to run the software, as the software developers decided against working with Apple to get the apps signed so that they could not be modified with malware undetected.
D.I. Johnson...Bless you!!! You truly did research this problem to the nth degree! When you say you finally did get success with version 3.2.0.8, could you please explain to me where I find this version and install it?
So, my understanding is, I need to uninstall the reinstalled version, then reboot...correct? Then I need to install the 3.2.0.8 version, download and relocate the two .db files...correct? If so, where do I find the 3.2.0.8 version?
I'll also tell you that I've experienced the blank startup screen a couple times since my successful app launch, but quitting and relaunching the app did always result in success. And the successful launches outnumber the fails. So apparently there is still something a little flaky about the app. (Not surprising.)
Wow, ok now it won't let me reinstall the Game Manager app at all. It now is giving me a message that reads, "You can't open the "Game Manager" because the Classic environment is no longer supported".
Hi, late last night I was able to get the game manager to open, so I started downloading all of my games. I have a lot and my internet is not fast. So just a little bit ago the games disappeared in the big fish game manager, but they are in my launchpad. But now when I try to download others they won't come up. I did see this: Game System Requirements:
Hi, yes I did that on my husband's iMac and it worked and he has Big Sur, so I did the same thing on my MacBook Pro with Big Sur but it quits unexpectedly over and over again. The only thing I can think of is that mine has the M1 chip in it. Hopefully Big Fish does an update to help me with this. Thanks, Pam
Hi, so I did all of this plus after I did it I restarted my laptop and I am still getting the same thing. That the game manager has quit unexpectedly and it has a bunch of funny letters and stuff. So I don't know what else to try. Thanks for trying to help me. Pam
You appear to have installed the Windows executable, ending in .exe, com.bigfishgames.bfgclient.exe and tried to run it. Of course it blew up in your face. Your Mac does not directly execute Windows executable files.
I recently had to reset my mac and i'm trying to reinstall the Big fish game manager app but it crashes every time i try to open the installation file. I'm on macOS Mojave so it should work, i've never had problems with it before. I'm thinking i might be missing something to run the app or something is blocking it?
I have a brand new install of Arch running. I had this problem yesterday which led me to do a reformat and just start anew, but Dolphin, the file manager hasn't been opening programs with its associated editor. Does anyone have any news on this or how I can fix it?? (Like text files won't open with gedit, libreoffice by double clicking, etc)
If I just turn on my computer and start i3 from tty, double click a file can't work properly.
If I double click a audio file it will play but without a new window open(I'm using mpv). And other file they just can't open.
I closed my wm and started plasma desktop and the dolphin worked well.
Then I exit plasma and start i3 again, the file can be opened now. But still had some issues.
Anyway, I have found that: if haven't start plasma before:
the kde applications can't start other programs with gui, not only dolphin, but also the system-setting and so on.
If start plasma-desktop and close it and start the wm:
they can now start other programs, but the programs lost their themes(I mean, the QT programs don't show the correct themes). That won't happen in KDE5.
The theme of QT programs is correct if you start with dmenu or any terminal-emulator, including the konsole of dolphin.
That's all. I don't know how to solve it either.
Did you also downgrade dolphin dependencies? On my system, I would have to get kuserfeedback5 from ALA (Arch Linux Archive) since it's no longer in the extra repository (it's been replaced with kuserfeedback-6.0.0-2):

Big Fish Games released a new Game Manager this week. When attempting to install a PC game from the BFG stub into CrossOver, the stub first tries to install the new Game Manager. Obviously that did not work out well. Will there be a CrossTie installation of the new BFG Game Manager available soon?
Oh boy. I tried to download a PC game this afternoon and it started to download the new GM - disaster. An IE script error message pops up and the GM is just a white window with an unclickable hyperlink that says Game Manager. I tried downloading a whole new GM from here and tried downloading the game again, with the same results. I now cannot use the GM in crossover or access my games.
As for what to do about such... well ....if you're like myself and
routinely back-up (create a cxarchive) of your bottles, these will
all still work. The 'old' BigFishGames client still works, and it
won't try to update itself unless you try to install another new
game into that bottle. So don't do that obviously....
..the state of play at present is that you can sill use your old BFG
bottles, but you cannot install new games and/or reinstall the ones
you already have, so it's a bit tragic. I'll have a look at it again
tomorrow with the latest devel-wine to see how things are there, Sorry
my news isn't so good, but basically when stuff like this happens it's
out of our control...
I've made a change to the CrossTie for BFG that makes this work again, at least well enough that I can play Pizza Chef 2. It'll require an install into a new bottle, and I was only able to install a game I own by running a game-specific installer from the BFG website.
