Eventhough this echo stops there is another issue for me the call audio gets distorted the only temp fix for that is turn on the speaker for the call and turn it off. But then it occurs again in like 5 mins.

I know everyone will find this hard to believe, and being an engineer I really did not want to post this, but I have a 2019 Jetta with this same phone echo issue while on CarPlay that were resolved by the dealer.


I took it to the dealer who said they have heard many people mentioning this and what they are doing is installing foam around the car's microphone to resolve it. Although I was highly skeptical, it is a warranty fix so I had them do it. No software upgrades were done. The tech tested beforehand with another tech and heard the echo, and then retested once the foam was installed and it was resolved. I retested with both my iPhone 12 in the car calling the tech, and then his iPhone 10 in the car calling me, and there was no longer any echo. My daughter has recently called me with her iPhone 11 in the car and all sounded good.


So while this sounds highly unbelievable, and while I really think it is something wrong with a recent IOS upgrade since the CarPlay phone echo did not occur until just recently, this dealer modification seems to have resolved it for me. A clip from the service invoice is attached below.


I'm also experiencing the same CarPlay echo and voice distortion issues with my 2019 VW Jetta. My vehicle has been serviced for this issue almost a dozen times since I purchased the car new from the VW dealership in Sept 2019. The service department has come up with every excuse in the books to include software update issues, a bad radio module, the microphone being installed improperly, the cable I'm using to connect the phone to the USB port is not good, and my cell phone is not supported (even though I am currently using the new iPhone 12 and the issue still persists). My Jetta is, once again, back in the shop this week for another attempt at correcting the issue. The service manager said he plans to replace the control unit and microphone this time. I have zero confidence any of this will actually work. The entire situation is beyond frustrating.


Thanks for reaching back out to us. We'd like to continue to look into this with you. When you went to the dealership, were they able to check for a firmware update? Also, are you able to test in another vehicle to see if the issue remains?


Did you end up getting a resolution for this? I just purchased a VW T-roc and am having the same issue have tried multiple phones and it is very frustrating. Defeats the purpose of Carplay not sure if im mad at apple or VW, they tell me its an apple issue let me know if you found a solution thanks!


I have a 2020 VW jetta and a Iphone 12 mini. The apple car play echo's when calling an andriod. I can hear the caller but the caller's voice echo's making it impossible for the caller to talk. I have tried your other steps, nothing works.
