If the Speed to Gateway Test is not available to you and you want to get an estimate of the speed that the Comcast network delivers to your home, run the test from a laptop that's connected to your Gateway using an ethernet cable. Connections that rely on WiFi may have different results that don't show the full potential of your service.
Note: If you're running the Speed Test only using an Internet connection, other programs or devices that are using that same connection may drain your bandwidth. You've probably noticed that downloading from a local server location is faster than a distant one. The Xfinity test does not install any software on your computer, and it works almost instantaneously. The test is performed by pinging the server 10 times, then averaging those times to determine the final result. (The Xfinity speed test measures the performance for any internet service provider (ISP), not just Xfinity.)
You can use the original speedtest CLI utility from ookla. The one shipped with nethserver is an opensource one (there was some discussion about using or not using the one from ookla due to its license).
Running Speedtest from command line on the Netserver system routinely measures greater than 900 Mbps download, with a peak of about 1050 Mbps (even while running a video streams on two Rokus while testing)

Please open port 8080 for speed tests to work. This problem bothered me for many weeks. Nothing showed blocked in the logs. Finally, I decided to open port 8080 for outgoing traffic and the problem was fixed.
I suspect you are having issues with the flash based speed tests, try speedof.me. I tried a couple of those sites and one reports I am using a proxy on port 3128 and then fails because my firewall does not support byte something and then further tells me I have a bad anti-virus (windows) on my mac to get a better one. Pity, no anti-virus on mac at moment.
