Service that Saves Lives: The Six Cents Initiative
Have you wondered about the future fate of the Six Cents Initiative following the introduction of our new Eliminate Ambassador? I am very pleased to report that The Six Cents Initiative will be continuing following this year. :) We appreciate your patience as we continued numerous conversations with Kiwanis International and UNICEF, but more importantly we appreciate you speaking up to say you want to see this partnership remain! The Six Cents Initiative will continue under it's original stated fundraising goal of $500,000 so let's do some fundraising!
Need a new idea for fundraising? Then check this out! A few dedicated members have pulled together their own publication of a book entitled "Live to Serve, Love to Serve". The book is a collection of stories written entirely by Circle K members from across 5 of the 7 Subregions and a few Kiwanians that work closely with Circle K clubs. The book is a must-have for the college student that has dedicated their life to service but the stories contained in the book are sure to inspire you on your path of service, regardless of age. Additionally, 100% of the proceeds from this book will go directly to The Six Cents Initiative. At only $10, this truly is a steal! Purchase your copy today at http://www.sixcentsbook.com (The page will automatically redirect you to CreateSpace - an Amazon company that will allow you purchase the book online. For more information about the book, please check out https://sites.google.com/site/sixcentsproject/ or e-mail Ashley at hras...@gmail.com)
Wonder who your donations help? UNICEF works to provide water to communities that need it the most. While Haiti recently reached the one-year anniversary of the devastating earthquake that struck, their communities are still in dire need of supplies. When you donate to The Six Cents Initiative, you do help to establish resources of clean water for the children living in Haiti following the earthquake. Despite everything these children have been through, they send us thanks. As UNICEF noted, "It's a nice reminder that our commitment to Haiti does more than save lives. It gives hope." Check out the thank you cards that come straight from the children of Haiti and know that you are making a difference! Thank-you Cards
Lastly, Save the Date: If you have not marked your calendars already, remember that March 22nd is World Water Day. Check out the facebook group for more information on how to get involved!

STUFH (Students Team Up to Fight Hunger)
Show some love for your community by supporting STUFH's mission to end hunger. You can show you care by holding a canned food drive, or donating your time at a local food bank or soup kitchen, or you can even do your part by educating other on hunger statistics. In the spirit of Valentine's, you can attach hunger statistics to a pack of SweetTarts or the Heart Shaped candies and pass them out to the public. The possibilities are limitless when it comes to joining the fight against hunger.
Also, have you started thinking about what your chapter is going to do for CKI Service Week? Here's an idea. You and your chapter can give back to your community by making lunch for those in need. Something as simple as sandwiches and chips can go a long way to show your community you care. You can even make this a K-Family effort; the more the merrier.
Lastly, CKI, I have a challenge for you. In order to ensure that we show STUFH we are dedicated to their organization, l challenge your clubs to a CANpetition. During CKI Service Week, to the club that collects the most canned goods, I will personally donate $100.00 of my own money to the food bank of your choice. Does your club have what it takes to participate in my challenge?

March of Dimes
Need an idea for a service project to do during your club meeting? You can make wonderful decorations to give to your local Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)! These decorations are meant to comfort the families in the NICU while they wait to be able to bring their newborn home. This is especially good for the young siblings that are waiting because this should help to ease their worries by being entertained by the fun decorations around the hospital.
Project: Fun Animals
Supplies: Empty yogurt cups (any size), various felt colors, tacky glue, scissors, googly eyes, other various decorations.
Estimated Costs: $25 (for 20 animals)
Directions: Start with an empty (wash and dried) yogurt cup. Turn upside down. Measure a colored piece of felt to wrap the perimeter of the cup. Then decorate with eyes, spots, whisker etc. to make animal. Then take these to your local NICU to decorate!
For more ideas or to let me know a project that you’ve done with your club, feel free to email Ambassador Rachel at rachele...@gmail.com

The ELIMINATE PROJECT
The Circle K year is almost over, but here’s a few tips for you to highlight the ELIMINATE Project in the next month, while balancing all your other academic and extracurricular activities.
Midterms are coming up so to support student wellness make exam fast packs with school supplies and snacks! You can sell these for proceeds for the ELIMINATE Project.
Scatter educational materials on the ELIMINATE Project found at theeliminateproject.org in study areas in the libraries and have coin collections at the front desk that will go to the ELIMINATE Project.
Contact local restaurants to donate food for a buffet style benefit dinner so students do not need to worry about grocery shopping or making time to eat before exams. The buffet fee can be donated to the ELIMINATE Project.
With you involvement on campus host a carnival night, which each organization bring their own carnival game, open to other students to play for prizes. Ticket sales can go to the ELIMINATE Project.
With your involvement in Circle K and service work, get other community service organizations together to compete in a pageant or variety act and have proceeds go to the ELIMINATE Project.
Good luck with balancing all you do and fundraising for this great initiative! Please e-mail Ambassador Natalie at nat...@gmail.com with any questions you all might have.
