I had the same issue. Controller used to work fine, but after a few years I discovered it wouldn't synch. I tried my other guitar with the USB dongle and that synced, so I knew it was the guitar. I replaced the 220uF @10v capacitor on the main circuit board and it fixed the problem.
So, I just got Rock Band 4 for my PS5 just so that I can play Gaga's 10 DLC tracks on there. The only problem is that I don't have a Guitar controller so I can only sing for the time being.
I tried to research which guitar controller to get that would work with the game and also the PS5 (since there is no official guitar for the PS5). There are so many different varying results out there that it's making my poor no-tech-savvy brain confused and I have no idea what works and what doesn't. The devs did say the licensed official guitars for the PS4 version will work on the PS5 but they are in the hundreds-range on eBay.
Would anyone have some thoughts on it if there's any other alternate routes I could take, please? Thank you in advance!
It's okay! I miss the Gaga TapTap Revenge days so much when it comes to rhythm games!
And no, the regular controller is only recognized as a mic for the vocals and cannot be mapped to play the guitar parts.
Oh wow, that's so neat! Thank you so much!
Speaking of PS3 guitars, I often see this thing about some of them needing the Bluetooth dongle to connect while some don't. Does your guitar need the dongle to connect? I assume it's mostly for the wireless versions?
For the pricing, not a lot of second-hand stores are near here where I live but I'll continue to look out on eBay for a good deal. Hopefully, the PS5 will get an official guitar someday that will be easier to acquire.
If the Mayflash and Kramer dongles are found, a USB hub is not needed as the microphone and drums would plug into the only two USB ports on the console.
If buying from overseas, don't forget to account for higher shipping fees and tax. These dongles get lost all the time and without them, render them almost useless and are offloaded for cheap, hence the situation here. Don't throw them away though.
Also, discovered that the drum controller (usb dongle) wont allow single player mode. It is an option in the game menu, but it says no drums detected in single player mode. Works fine is Band mode. Perhaps there is a PS2 drum set out there with a controller type receiver?
Prime example of the confusing names - hence the Mayflash.
That one linked is the World Tour (WT) model, released with Guitar Hero World Tour. The colour scheme is commonly known as the Sunbusrt, though that alone shouldn't the definitive method of ID-ing a controller, as it had swap-able faceplates. Unlike the Les Paul, the PS2 & PS3 models are separate and can be identified by the center of the Dpad.
Skip the Wii and go for the Xbox 360. They connect directly to the console, negating the use of dongles all together (thank goodness). However, they are generally pricey as they are also the preferred controllers to connect to a PC (that's another can of worms to open).
@silverrat23: Hi bud, I managed to find 2 x Red Octane PS2 dongles. However, they are both for Kramers. Got a Kramer guitar from a friend, works perfect.
But no joy with the Red Octane Sunburst guitar. I was trying to find a way to open the dongle, and see what sets the communication pairing for each guitar.
Don't suppose you know of any information on anyone who has modded a dongle to work with a different guitar? Wouldn't be that hard, but would like some background before I crack it open. Will list it on here as a swap as well before that.
Lastly, my original copy of GH World Tour loads poorly. Just tuned the laser with an Oscilliscope, so it's not the laser. Would like to back it up before it gets worse (my laptop made an iso just fine). However, its over 4.7gb and wont fit on a normal DVDR. Any idea where all the PS2 Ripkits have gone? Used to be heaps of them. I found plenty of dead links, but the big repositories have gone?
Since bookreader was already translating controller commands, the Roll Limitless on Playstation also could let you use Wii and Xbox instruments on Playstation. This feature is now possible on Xbox, so not only can we now use the Xplorer on RB4, you can also now use any Wii or PS3 or even custom built Arduino-powered PC guitars on RB4 Xbox! Xbox technically has the most instrument compatibility on Rock Band now due to this. If you want to use wireless 360 instruments on your Xbox without the Wireless Adapter (also in the hundreds now), all you need is a Windows Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter, which are cheap and plentiful.
Since the Roll Limitless is supply component restrained (6 month to a year wait from when you order one due to chip shortages). bookreader has also released a guide where you can turn your computer or laptop into a giant Roll Limitless for only 30$ in parts that are readily available.
