The Ponti, located in the Sie Welcome Center of the Martin Building, combines art with dining to present a locally-sourced and seasonally-inspired menu. Come for lunch on weekdays, brunch on the weekends, and dinner on Tuesday and Friday nights. A museum ticket is not required to dine at The Ponti. Free admission is available to everyone every Thursday night, 5 pm - 8 pm. We encourage you to book tickets in advance due to ticket availability. The only requirement is that you bring a child with you!

The museum offers a discount on general admission fees to individuals who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Each guest showing a Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card and matching personal identification may purchase admission for him/herself and up to three additional guests at $5 per person. Cardholder must be present. This reduced price may not be combined with any other discount and is not applicable on butterfly garden or ropes course tickets, advanced sale tickets, or other museum events. Discount not available online. SNAP EBT cardholders receive a $74 discount on a Basic or higher level membership.

The museum offers a $5 discount on museum admission fees to active-duty US military personnel and US veterans (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy, and National Guard) and their immediate family members who present valid identification. The cardholder must be present. Spouse and dependent military identification will also be accepted. Discount may not be combined with any other discount and is not available online. Active-duty and veterans with proper ID also receive a $20 discount on a Basic or higher-level membership.

Guests showing a valid membership card with the ACM Reciprocal Network logo and matching photo ID will receive a 50% museum admission discount for up to six people. Discount only applies to museum admission. Discount not available online. You must have a membership card with the ACM Reciprocal Network logo at the time of visit to receive this discount. If your membership card does not have the ACM logo, you will not receive the discount.

Chichu Art Museum was constructed in 2004 as a site rethinking the relationship between nature and people. The museum was built mostly underground to avoid affecting the beautiful natural scenery of the Seto Inland sea. Artworks by Claude Monet, James Turrell, and Walter De Maria are on permanent display in this building designed by Tadao Ando. Despite being primarily subterranean, the museum lets in an abundance of natural light that changes the appearance of the artworks and the ambience of the space itself with the passage of time, throughout the day and all along the four seasons of the year.

Taking form as the artists and architect bounced ideas off each other, the museum in its entirety can be seen as a very large site-specific artwork.

Five paintings from the Water Lilies series produced by the great Impressionist painter Claude Monet in his later years can be enjoyed under natural light in the museum. The size of the room, its design and the materials used all were carefully selected to unite the Monet paintings with the surrounding space.

The entire art space, containing a sphere 2.2 meters in diameter and 27 gilded wooden geometric forms, was created under the direction of Walter De Maria as an artwork. Viewers experience this space under the natural light coming in from the ceiling, producing dramatic changes in the room's illumination depending on the hour.

Using solely concrete - the main material employed in Ando's architecture - steel, glass and wood, the design of the Chichu Art Museum is reduced to the very minimum. Built almost entirely underground, the museum balances the contradictory qualities of being both non-monumental but highly architectural.

Beyond the celebrated artist, Claude Monet also was a knowledgeable cook. Our original cookies and jam are based on the recipes left behind by the artist. Particular attention was paid to using ingredients and cooking methods faithful to the artist's lifetime.

Chichu Garden consists of nearly 200 kinds of flowers and trees similar to those planted at Giverny by Claude Monet, whose work is in the museum collection. Here, visitors can enjoy signs of the seasons throughout the year in flora ranging from the water lilies that Monet painted in his later years to willows, irises, and other plants. The garden affords a tangible experience of the nature Monet sought to capture in his paintings.

Upon reviewing the current method of handling group reservations at Chichu Art Museum in order to maintain the ideal environment for visitors and ensure traffic safety on the island, we have decided to require tour groups to follow the same admission procedures as individuals.

Weekend nights are the perfect time for a museum adventure! Explore museum galleries, and catch an Omnitheater showing of Fungi: Web of Life, our latest large-screen offering.

What do we call someone who comes to Museum Nights? A fun guy! Fungi: Web of Life is the latest of our evening offerings, unraveling how plants and animals would not exist without mushrooms, molds, yeasts, and toadstools. In this large-screen movie, witness time-lapsed life cycles of some of the grandest and strangest organisms ever discovered, all against the backdrop of landscapes largely unchanged since the time of the dinosaurs.

Dance your way into a host of museums under a silvery moon, starry sky, or dark blanket of night fog (depending on the autumn weather Vienna throws at you) in this annual evening of museum festivities.

Second, the museums tend to put on special tours or events just for the occasion. So you might run into a concert at the historical instrument collection, watch restoration work at the Furniture Museum, or join an Indonesian line dance at the Weltmuseum.

Third, thousands of people (over 183,000 at the last event) create a lovely atmosphere as they mill about the streets late at night, soaking up science, art, culture, history, and anything you might find in a glass cabinet.

Obviously, most of the special tours and events are in German, but not all. In 2023, for example, the Kunsthistorisches Museum explicitly offered English-language tours as part of their contribution to the event.
