Hello, All,

We've developed an environmental data portal oasishub.co and would like to allow providers of datasets to offer tools and services either separately to, or related to datasets.

My preference is to allow the information about tools and services to be created at the dataset level (where it's relevant) and the organisation level, for tools and services that are not related to a specific dataset.

I've attached a couple of pics to illustrate this.

Is it possible to create additional sections in the dataset form that can differentiate tools and services?

In a similar vein, is it possible to create a form specifically for capturing information relevant to these tools and services, the output of which reside in the two new sections mentioned above?

At the moment we are using a separate CMS (Wagtail) for the tools and services details. For me, this gives a poor user experience as the two systems look very different, and linking the datasets to relevant tools and services is done using an effective, but not particularly eloquent copy and paste of a URL.

This example https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset feels like it's a step closer to what I'd like to achieve.

Any help, much appreciated!
Cheers
Jim

Jim,

You might want to look at https://github.com/ckan/ckanext-showcase
which allows you to associate 'things' with datasets. The 'things' get
advertised on the dataset page and vice-versa. The association can be
many-to-many. The default 'things' are apps and articles, but they are
just a name, description, image and URL, so no doubt you could use
this for tools and services.

Or what British Columbia have done (in the link you provided) is use
the 'dataset type' property to differentiate between Datasets and
other things, which is more like your PDF diagram.

Delving into this is a technical matter, so please ask at ckan-dev or
Stackoverflow #ckan.
