This Sunday and a letter to send

Friends,

If you've been following what's happening to Gaza, you know we have to protest. Even the mainstream media is starting to get some of it right.

To those who have contacted their congressional representative and two senators by email or phone. thank you. For those who haven't, I'll paste a template at the end of this letter to use as-is or to amend as you wish.

If you haven't been following the tragic events of this past week--and if you haven't been active about ending the occupation of Palestine and the terrible siege on Gaza, and now this murderous assault--please check out www.mondoweiss.net.

If you'd like to join a Twitter campaign directed at elected and other government officials, email me back and I'll put you on the list. There will be one Tweet a day, barring the unforeseen.

Those who live in the Kansas City area, please join us as we gather Sunday, July 20, 2014 from 3-6 p.m. at the Country Club Plaza (JC Nichols Memorial Fountain). Bring flags and signs. We'll do "selfies" to show solidarity with Gaza. Maybe a "die-in" as they did in DC, in which we all lie down on the grass representing all the dead in Gaza.

These are war crimes, make no mistake.

Below is the letter template. Please email or call! The process of email can be a bit cumbersome with a form to fill out for each congress person, but they need to hear our voices. Believe me, they're hearing from the opposition. We cannot be silent.

Dear <Senator X or Representative Y>

Just a reminder that the Israeli military and settler presence in the West Bank and the siege of Gaza continue to be illegal under international law, that the use of American weapons against a civilian population is against US law, and that collective punishment is always a war crime. As a taxpayer and as a voter, I object to US dollars being used to fund such an unlawful enterprise as the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestine, the brutal subjugation of the people, and the onslaught on Gaza. Please stop funding Israel's war crimes.
