This message has three parts. The first two are for our Kansas City-area members. The last item is for everyone on our list whether in KC or North Carolina or the United Kingdom. Greetings to all!

1) It's not too late to sign up for a fascinating, 8-class course called "Feminist Theology and the Church," taught by Dr. Kris Kvam, faculty member at St. Paul School of Theology.

The class begins tomorrow evening (Tuesday, September 3), from 6:30 to 8:30 in room 232 at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas. The cost is $75. Find more information and sign up here: http://villagepres.org/ministries-programs/adult-ministry/village-university/

2) Several free day and evening classes are available through Micah's Ministries at Village Presbyterian, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas, starting Wednesday, September 11. Come hear Dr. James Fleming and Jonne Avery Long tell about their calling to "remember those in prison as if you were in prison with them" (Hebrews 13.3). Jonne Long has worked with Prison  Visitation and Support for many years. In addition to visiting prisoners at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas, she is also part of the PVS training team so that others can become involved. Dr. Fleming works as a psychiatrist for the Missouri Department of Corrections and finds inspiration from such scriptures as Matthew 25 (‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.").

"I was in prison and you visited me" is Wednesday evening, September 11, from 6:30 to 8 pm in room 126.

You can learn more about these and many other classes at

3) And now, for everyone:  For independent study when you find yourself needing a theology/politics fix, watch "With God on Our Side," an intense documentary about Christian Zionism and its affect on the situation in Palestine-Israel. The film is one hour, 21 minutes. Find it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTpWV_rTcEo
Anglican vicar Stephen Sizer gives an explanation of the parable of the Good Samaritan near the end that is the best I've ever heard.

That's all for now, friends of peace and justice.  Thanks for all you do. Andrea Whitmore
