I think the biggest selling point for this headunit is the screen real estate, short chassis and capacitive touchscreen. It is very premium to have capacitive touchscreen for headunit. The touch will be more intuitive and the picture is clearer.

I think alot depends on what you will be using it for and what you intend to achieve. If not an audiophile and just want simple stuff like waze, youtube, one can even buy one tablet and just stick it over the original HU. ? Sound still can stream over via bluetooth if your current HU support. The only trade off is u can't see your reverse cam (if any).

i was also looking at the new Pioneer Z6350 and Z5350. when looking at these 2 models against the higher end Android HU . the Android HU has better specs and is easier to install for my Hyundai Elantra and more features. whereas the Pioneer normal 2-Din set need additional panel wire etc to plus more ex.

A few months ago I replaced my "No Brand Chinese Head Unit" in my Honda CRV 2009 with a Pioneer dmh-z6350bt. The older one was working fine but it didn't have a external Mic port and had a missing button cover that was annoying me.

So I thought it was a great excuse to upgrade. The Pioneer didn't have as many features on it as the no brand one, namely no inbuilt GPS but I figured Android Car Play would let me use google maps from my phone. It was installed by a qualified tech but since I got it, the Radio now and then cuts out in places the other didn't. Also people I speak to over the phone while driving all tell me they there is a lot of static. I have not been able to get my phone synced with the car (properly) and cant use google maps as such. Basically I am beginning to think the head unit is rubbish given the old Chinese brand seemed to work 100% of time and had 30% more features. I never had operation issues with it. E.g. the FM radio reception was heaps better etc.

My phone has android 9 and there are no upgrades for it. I read somewhere that android 10 is required. but surely that can't be the reason? I mean, the address book in my phone connects to the head unit and i can make calls, just the mic appears crappy. but it's the mic that came with it. Or am I wrong? I hope I am and a new phone will fix it.

Also can't say I have radio reception issues either.

My car had a powered antenna system so if you have the same check that the power is connected properly to it, maybe the installer goofed there..

I have tried booth. But granted the USB-C (when plugged in) will connect, then disconnect, then reconnect, then disconnect and so on. I am hoping it's a mobile phone problem as the V20 is an older phone.

I really hope you are right... hehehe I bought a new phone over the weekend with Android 10 (which I am hoping will fix the problem) and just waiting for delivery. Otherwise I will need to have the old unit put back in. I don't know what else to do and I am reluctant to say the head unit is faulty because it's new. I am hoping it just is what it is and it doesn't support my phone. And my new phone will fix all the issues.

ummm, no? I didn't know this. I will try activating both tomorrow. On the way home, I normally makes calls so I will give it a go.. Granted I may have had this activated in the past, I don't know. But note, my phone is usually plugged in with USB-C. That way I charge it on the way home.

I am hoping it's my phone. Again, the V20 is like 4-5 years old and they don't do any more updates for this version on android (dual sim). The new phone I am getting runs Android 10. I am hoping these problems are a "user end issue" (i.e. my fault) so I can start using google maps, have good FM reception and make calls were people can hear me. It's not a good look when I speak to the ex-wife each day on the way home from work and I tell her she keeps cutting out on me and she says I am purposely muffling the phone mic :-)

You should not need to do anything, that was just a FYI.

It should just 'work' without worrying too much about how it works.

I just wanted to illustrate the overhead required for wireless CP or AA to work and if at all possible, use a cable (much longer battery life for your phone too)

This Pioneer head unit is pure rubbish. I had high expectations but its like Android Auto keeps crashing, nothing really works properly (except for the power) including the radio skipping channels when flicking between stations, and the list goes on. I even got a new phone that is running Android 10 and nothing works for long without crashing.

And when I mean Rubbish I am comparing it to my $250 aftermarket one which had a bigger screen, 10 times more options and it was truly plug and play. This Pioneer one is literally going to be a door stopper and I dare say, it wont even do that properly.

I installed it myself with aerpro harnesses which was completely plug and play. Everything functions as described. To the OP, there is a built in GPS and aerial that was provided with the unit. However I don't think there is a map application provided. There is a menu with some weird 3d sensor crap though. Shows vehicle speed etc.

I did a self install last weekend which was pretty painless with the Aerpro harnesses. However, in use the audio is frequently cutting in and out and occasionally Apple AirPlay will completely reset and go through a reconnection cycle. This is very disappointing.

I have also tried to use the CarAVAssist app to upgrade to 2.0 today but when I click transfer after downloading the firmware it just sits there on "Processing.." on my phone and does not seem to initiate the transfer as the Pioneer screen does not change.
