Hi Friends,
I miss you all and I hope you're all well.

On Saturday, some of you participated in conversations about how to keep this group connected and how to connect with others interested in civic studies (eg, Summer Institute alumni). We had a lot of ideas, and I wanted to share some things that have percolating since then.

Please read on for info on file sharing, a t-shirt survey, a google group and a website!

Notes + shared drive
Phil awesomely took and typed up notes from the morning discussion, and had the idea of creating a shared Google folder for our class. Phil's notes, our class contact list and ideas from our small group discussion are in the new shared folder. Feel free to add other docs! (Erhardt - there was a request for your notes)
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B6diUTdSutBcYm5hZlFqdWpEdk0&usp=sharing

T-Shirts
Carolina has created a survey to gauge interest in a T-Shirt: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HTZHXP9, fill it out, friends!

Listserv and website

Based off the conversations I had, it seemed like the biggest needs were 1) a way to collaborate through email and 2) a way to aggregate various information.

With Carollina's help, I’ve started playing with some tools to try to meet those needs. This is every much a work in progress, definitely in need of your co-creation. Please share any and all feedback and let me know what would work well for you.

I’ve create a Google Group listserv (civics...@googlegroups.com) and a website, http://civicstudies.org/, which aggregates blog posts and emails to the group. I’ve added you all as owners to the listserv. Email and edit away! (Or remove yourself...)

Please also let me know if you have a blog you'd like me to include in the blog aggregation.

Based off conversations I had on Saturday with previous Summer Institute alumni as well as a few others at the conference, I think it would make sense to make this group focus on alumni of the Institute, but to invite participation from all conference attendees.

Please let me know what you think of that approach.

I look forward to hearing from all of you!

Best,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah for setting this up.  Attached is an interesting poem that would be great for discussion.

My wife would like to link to this poem on her blog (University Diaries), with a thank you for you. Would that be OK?

Great poem, Jim, thanks for sharing!

To clarify, did you want to discuss as a meet up topic? If so, just choose a date and time - I'll be there!

Also, just a reminder to everyone, please let me know if you have additional blogs to post to the site or any other changes. I'm happy to share the back-end login info if you'd like.

Please also let me know if you have any concerns about expanding the access of the listserve to previous Summer Institute alumni as well as to interested folks from the Frontiers conference. Unless I hear otherwise, I'll plan to share with those groups in the next few days.

Hope you're all doing well,
Sarah
