Hello everyone,

I'm hoping folks can join us for the upcoming Government Open Source
Conference (GOSCON), coming up on October 27-28th at the Nines Hotel
in Portland. GOSCON is an ideal event for advocates of open
government, transparency and open source in government projects. We
are also hoping to make sure folks from State and local government
join in for the conversation. The conference is non-profit and allows
attendees the right space to network and collaborate in a non-
commercial setting.

We're also excited to be featuring Max Ogden and Skip Newberry as two
of our speakers for the first ever IgniteGov.

Last but not least, you'll notice that at the close of the conference
we are inviting attendees to join in the CivicApps Award Ceremonies. I
spoke with Rick Nixon about the ceremony this morning and he's still
nailing down the final details, but it's definitely on for 5:30 - 8:00
PM on Thursday, October 28th.

Hope some of you folks can join us for GOSCON. If you're not able to
attend, please spread the word among your networks.

Best,
LH

Leslie,

Speaking for myself, though I'm sure this applies to other app
developers, $300 is a bit steep. Almost by definition, most of the
civicapps application development participants are not government or
non-profit entities, and the only other ticket price I see is for
corporate entities or their representatives. Even at the non-profit
price of $200, it is a bit much for someone who is primarily writing
free apps, or otherwise working on civicapps and open data in a
non-commercial manner.

Hi Loki,

Understood. The GOSCON Meetup is free of charge to attend, as is IgniteGov. And, FWIW, the cost includes meals.

I realize the cost may be out of reach for some, but we are proud that we can provide this kind of speaker line up for about $300 per attendee vs. $2000 or more for comparable conferences.

Cheers,
LH
