So what should we use, Discourse is really nice, but seems to be out of the option if we want to keep things nice and easy for the time being, our OpenVZ VPS at OVH gives us great perf-price ratio and a upgrade in place option that saves days of work every time, so we should try and find another good option.

You make all my chins sad. The kimsurf server you were eyeing  seems to be very high demand but no supply. There is an availabliity check website thingy. http://www.availability.ovh/

Now, as for forum alternatives, could always try simple machines. Discourse is my first choice, because it is a serious upgrade to our moderating capabilities. However, SMF is time tested and works.

the issue is that the OVH server is just so good, its super cost effective, powerful, free DDOS, unlimited bandwidth, nothing to complain about at all.
