Hello All,
I currently use technology to present information, and also to
organize, display, and analyze information. I would like to begin to
use technology as a tool for collaborative platform between students
as well as between myself and the students as well as between the
students an the rest of the world.

Hi Jason,
What do you teach, and what are your thoughts for the collaboration
aspect? I struggle for ideas here due to the availability of
computers for all students at home, or getting the library time, or
even the amount of time I would have to put into putting a
collaborative project together.

Hi Rachel,
I teach 11th and 12th grade chemistry.
I have not had trouble getting library/computer lab time as long as i
reserve it a week or so in advance.
I also have not come across studnets not having computers at home.
However, occassionally students will lose internet connection or a
virus will put their computer out of commission. I generally provide a
large window of time to complete assignments that require technology
for that reason alone....so that students can "work out" their
technological hang-ups.
By collaboration, I mean sharing ideas and information.....this can,
but doesn't always have to entail a group project. I like to give open
ended writting prompts/questions where students respond on a
discussion board, not only directly to the prompt but also to each
other. I like this because it gives students more time to provide an
intellectual response, time I can't realistically give in the
classroom setting. Also, I've witnessed students that are quiet in
class "come alive" on the discussion board. I also emphasize that
students cite information to support heir responses.
