CityGroup 2008-2009: Call for Papers
Thanks to the generous support of the Stanford Humanities Center and UC Berkeley's Townsend Center for the Humanities, we are happy to announce that the Berkeley-Stanford CityGroup will continue throughout the upcoming academic year. We are now looking for graduate students interested in discussing their research during our interdisciplinary workshop sessions planned for 2008-2009.
CityGroup aims to provide a space in which researchers from a variety of fields and across university campuses can share their own work, collaborate on projects, and discuss critical shifts in urban studies. The group welcomes geographers, planners, anthropologists, historians, sociologists, architects, and anyone else with a strong interest in the social, cultural, material, and political dimensions of cities and urban space. Each workshop session contains short presentations by three graduate students followed by critical commentary from a faculty discussant and conversation with the audience. CityGroup alternates between Stanford and UC Berkeley on a regular basis.
We especially encourage advanced graduate students currently working on their dissertations to consider presenting a chapter draft or a recently completed paper. Those interested should send an email to berkeleystan...@gmail.com no later than Monday, October 6, 2008 with the following information:
Name
Academic standing (e.g., 2nd year PhD)
Institutional/departmental affiliation
Title of presentation
Short description/Abstract
Preferred time to present (fall, winter, spring)
Feel free to widely distribute this call for papers amongst potentially interested colleagues and e-mail distribution lists. To continue to receive emails about CityGroup, please make sure you are subscribed to the following Google group: http://groups.google.com/group/citywg.
