The new Barnes art gallery and education campus will open on May 19, 2012. The facility, located just south of CityView on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, will house the Barnes Foundation's art collection including works by European and American masters of impressionism, post-impressionist, and early modern art, as well as African sculpture, Pennsylvania German decorative arts, Native American textiles, and metalwork. Opening events will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 19, followed by ten days of special visits to the new building and gardens concluding with 60 hours of free, round-the-clock open access to the public on the weekend of May 26-28. Verizon expects that it could offer FiOS (Fiber Optic Services) to CityView residents by early 2012. The actual timing depends upon board association approval and installation of fiber optic cable through the buildings. On October 17, at 7 p.m., Forest City Enterprises will hold a community meeting at the Community College of Philadelphia about its proposal to build "Museum Towers II" on property located between 18th and 19th streets and between Callowhill and Hamilton streets. The proposed construction includes a 16-story high rise, town houses, and a four-story above-ground parking garage. Forest City Enterprises manages the existing Museum Towers located at 1801 Buttonwood Street. The meeting will be held in Room BG-10, Bonnell Large Auditorium, at 16th and Spring Garden streets. The notice reminds residents that floor mats and other items may not be placed in common area hallways, and that any alterations to common facing doors must be in compliance with regulations and approved by the Architectural Control Committee.
