Dear friend,

The chaos of a Republican-controlled Washington was on full display this week.

The Department of Homeland Security was finally funded without any money for Trump’s cruel immigration agenda after Speaker Johnson brought up the unanimously approved Senate deal he ignored for nearly a month. While this ensures that the hardworking men and women at TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard get paid, I will continue pushing to defund and dismantle ICE.

Republicans also did nothing to make life more affordable for you and your families as Trump’s illegal and costly war with Iran continues to drive up prices here at home. Gas prices hit their highest levels in over 4 years thanks to Trump’s war of choice.

I’m not letting their dysfunction stop me from fighting for Denver. In an Energy & Commerce Committee hearing this week, I questioned witnesses about the role the federal government should play in food safety. Americans deserve peace of mind—when they’re shopping at the grocery store, preparing their kids’ lunches, or purchasing infant formula—that the food they are feeding their family is free of toxins or contaminants.

Unfortunately, Donald Trump and RFK Jr. are making it harder for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to do its job. They slashed FDA staffing, jeopardizing the scientific work necessary to hold corporations accountable and ensure our food is safe.

Even worse, we found out approximately 8,000 Coloradans will lose Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits this week due to new restrictions from Trump’s Big Bad Bill. Nationwide, that number grows to 3 million people who have lost their SNAP benefits. At a time when families in Denver are struggling to keep up with the cost of groceries, Republicans are ripping food assistance away from children, seniors, and working families to help pay for tax breaks for billionaires.

That’s not right, and I am fighting to reverse the devastating cuts they’ve made and restore food and health care benefits for those who need it most.
