Hello everyone,

I was able to obtain information regarding bike parking requirements in the City of Denver.
See thread below.

I've noticed a number of new bike rack installations that either don't have the appropriate type of racks, or are missing the tamper resistant security nuts.
This seems to especially be true at redevelopments.

Please share with your respective networks to report installations that do not  meet the requirements.

Thank you for your advocacy!

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson

Hi Bryan,

The [redacted] was approved under the August 11, 2025 Denver Zoning Code.

Based on the proposed uses on the property and the size of those uses, the project requires 0 enclosed and 2 fixed bicycle racks per DZC 10.4.3.3.A. They provided  0 enclosed and 6 fixed bicycle spaces. The fixed spaces can be provided on either the private property or in the public ROW.

Sheet 17 of the approved SDP shows this detail specification below for the proposed fixed bicycle rack, which references back to a standard detail required by Department of Transportation and Infrastructure for bicycle racks in the public ROW.

The Denver Zoning Code bicycle parking requirements and design standards focus on the quantity and locations of where the enclosed /fixed bicycle parking locations should be sited.

See DZC Section 10.4.3. for specific requirements.

https://denvergov.org/files/assets/public/v/10/community-planning-and-development/documents/zoning/denver-zoning-code/denver_zoning_code_article10_design_standards.pdf

In particular, Section 10.4.3.4.B. discusses requirements for fixed bicycle racks and specifies that they should be securely anchored (see below).

If you believe that the installed bicycle racks are not installed per the detail below or are not securely anchored, I would recommend reaching out to the Zoning Inspector for this site to discuss your concerns. She can work with the property owner to ensure that the installation meets the zoning code and the approved plans.

Hello,

Please see the email below.
What requirements are given to developers for bike parking from Community Planning & Development?

I'm specifically wondering if any are required to be indoors or covered, as well as if security nuts or anchors are required.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Respectfully,

Good morning Bryan and [redacted] –

Here’s what I could find:

This link takes you here: https://www.denvergov.org/Government/Agencies-Departments-Offices/Agencies-Departments-Offices-Directory/Community-Planning-and-Development/Denver-Zoning-Code

Since my department focuses on bicycle parking within the public right-of-way, it was suggested you try reaching out to Community Planning and Development for guidance on bike parking on private property.

Thanks so much for reaching out!

Kind regards,
