Dear City of,
During his State of the Union speech this week, Donald Trump lied about the economy, launched personal attacks against Members of Congress, and displayed his narcissism in a way never before seen in the Presidency. I refuse to legitimize his egregious actions, and that is why I boycotted the speech.
Also this week, I had an opportunity to speak to the press about my plans to hold the administration accountable for their disastrous health care policies if the Democrats take back the House in the midterms. As the top Democrat on the Health Subcommittee, my top priority will be to participate in oversight investigations and hearings into issues like the secret deals between the Trump administration and drug companies. As I said, “We can subpoena all these people to come in. We can subpoena their documents. And if they won’t do it, they would be in contempt of Congress."
Additionally, I published an op-ed about the Trump administration's war on science. For decades, our research institutions made America the global leader in scientific research. In just one year, Trump and RFK Jr. have destroyed that, and the world's best minds will simply do their research somewhere else — even for our adversaries. You can read the full op-ed here.
On a happier note, I was so proud to see Coloradans win eight total medals, including six golds, at the Winter Olympics. I'm looking forward to the Paralympics starting next week, and cheering on Team USA, including at least one athlete from Denver!
As always, if you have any questions about my work or any issue, please call my office at 303-844-4988, or visit my website at DeGette.House.Gov where you can learn more about how my staff is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
Diana DeGette
P.S. Last week, I asked if the FCC should be able to dictate who appears on late-night TV, after they tried to silence Stephen Colbert. Over 5,000 of you responded, and more than 92% said NO. Thank you for taking the survey and providing your feedback.
