DOTI Travel Advisory

Temporary Closures Ahead as Denver Makes Safety Improvements to

East Yale Avenue and Constructs New High Line Canal Trail Underpass

DENVER – Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure would like the public to be aware of upcoming temporary closures of East Yale Avenue from Monaco St. Parkway to Quebec Street for milling and paving operations, as well as an upcoming weekend closure of Yale Avenue at Holly Street for the installation of a new underpass that will make travel along the High Line Canal Trail safer for people walking and biking.

East Yale Avenue Closures from Monaco to Quebec streets

Work to provide a smooth surface on the roadway is expected to start tomorrow, Tuesday, June 30. Crews will first use a mill to remove the old asphalt surface, then return with a paver to lay down a fresh layer of asphalt. In between milling and paving operations, concrete work is scheduled along that stretch to prepare for installation of two Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) that will increase the visibility of people walking and biking across Yale Avenue; one RRFB will be located east of Monaco St. Parkway and the other west of Quebec Street.

Work will occur between Tuesday, June 30, and Friday, July 17. Works hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lane closures should be expected and full closures of Yale Avenue may needed for safety. An official detour will be provided (see attached) and drivers may want to consider other routes. Crews will try to maintain local access to the neighborhood streets off Yale Avenue when it’s safe to do so, but people may experience delays and should plan to use alternate routes.  Crews will prioritize using S. Oneida Street to provide access to Bible Park.

The following detour routes will be in place during the milling, paving, and concrete work:

  • Eastbound traffic will be detoured north to Evans Avenue via Monaco St. Parkway, east to Quebec and then south to return to Yale Avenue.
  • Westbound traffic will be detoured north to Evans Avenue via Quebec Street, west to Monaco St. Parkway and then south to return to Yale Avenue.

Upcoming Weekend Closures of E. Yale Avenue at S. Holly Street

Full closures of E. Yale Avenue at Holly Street are tentatively scheduled for the weekends of Jul 17-Jul 20 and August 7- August 10 so that a contractor for DOTI can install a new underpass that will allow people using the High Line Canal Trail to avoid conflicts with cars. More details on the project and travel updates can be found closer to the closure dates on the High Line Canal Trail Underpass at Yale and Holly Project Website.
