Canopy Art Installed at First East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit Station

Progress continues along Denver’s iconic avenue

DENVER – Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI), in partnership with Denver Arts and Venues, announces the first Colfax Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) art installation is complete! The night version of the artwork shown below is now beautifying the canopy of the westbound station arch at Pennsylvania Street. The day version of the artwork will be installed at the eastbound Pennsylvania station. A part of Denver’s Public Arts Program, the artwork was created by local artist, Lui Ferreyra.

In 2024, Denver Arts & Venues commissioned five artists or artist teams/ organizations to create original artworks for 15 separate stations along the future East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line in Denver. Each artist was assigned three different stations to create original designs for, with artworks integrated into the glass canopies above station platforms. The goals for the artwork include highlighting and bolstering the history, diversity and spirit of the Colfax corridor. The project budget is $2.2 million and includes design, fabrication and installation of the artwork.

More examples of the artwork that will be added along East Colfax Avenue can be found on the project website. Artists commissioned include Access Gallery (Denver, CO), Justin DeCou (Denver, CO), Lui Ferreyra (Golden, CO), Koco Collaborations, (Denver, CO), and Janelle Stanley (Tempe, AZ). The East Colfax BRT project team is planning a series of “meet the artist” events at local East Colfax businesses. The first event is expected to be held in February 2026.

About Lui Ferreyra

Lui Ferreyra is a Mexican born artist based out of the Denver area whose work primarily consists of landscapes and the human figure. Both his drawings and paintings deploy a fragmented signature style emphasizing the deconstruction of visual experience. Some of his works can be seen in public spaces, including four murals throughout Denver's downtown area, four portrait commissions that hang in Boettcher Hall, and a large-scale landscape painting that hangs in Douglas County Library's newest branch in Castle Rock. His work has been published by New American Paintings, Art Ltd, Wired Magazine, FastCompany, Forbes, Huffington Post, and most recently on the cover of Artists Magazine.

Bryan,

We pull the RNO list from the city’s website when we send these out.

Can you add that email address to that RNO list if you are a prime RNO contact?

Thank you for your response. I appreciate it.

I understand that you pull from the RNO contact list, but unfortunately, this email won't be an RNO email address.

There is also nothing requiring this information to be shared broadly by RNOs to the general public.

I also requested that a series of Google Groups to be added in alignment with the Neighborhood Planning Initiative.

This would be a way for people to get information in areas where their RNO doesn't relay information OR there isn't a registered neighborhood organization in their community.

Seems reasonable to me to have them added as a way to make communications from the City of Denver Agencies more public & also targeted.

For instance, this specific thread could have been sent to east-cent...@googlegroups.com to be included in https://groups.google.com/g/east-central-denver.

Otherwise, once the RNO contact list is updated, I'll stop getting this sort of information, just like everyone else.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson

If I try to register a Google Group on most of the contact forms, I get this error message.

This is why someone on the back end needs to add these emails, & I think the RNO contacts is the only solution available right now.

Can someone please figure out some way to address this issue?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson
