Progress continues along Denver’s iconic avenue
DENVER – Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI), in partnership with Denver Arts and Venues, announces the first Colfax Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) art installation is complete! The night version of the artwork shown below is now beautifying the canopy of the westbound station arch at Pennsylvania Street. The day version of the artwork will be installed at the eastbound Pennsylvania station. A part of Denver’s Public Arts Program, the artwork was created by local artist, Lui Ferreyra.

In 2024, Denver Arts & Venues commissioned five artists or artist teams/ organizations to create original artworks for 15 separate stations along the future East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line in Denver. Each artist was assigned three different stations to create original designs for, with artworks integrated into the glass canopies above station platforms. The goals for the artwork include highlighting and bolstering the history, diversity and spirit of the Colfax corridor. The project budget is $2.2 million and includes design, fabrication and installation of the artwork.
More examples of the artwork that will be added along East Colfax Avenue can be found on the project website. Artists commissioned include Access Gallery (Denver, CO), Justin DeCou (Denver, CO), Lui Ferreyra (Golden, CO), Koco Collaborations, (Denver, CO), and Janelle Stanley (Tempe, AZ). The East Colfax BRT project team is planning a series of “meet the artist” events at local East Colfax businesses. The first event is expected to be held in February 2026.
About Lui Ferreyra
Lui Ferreyra is a Mexican born artist based out of the Denver area whose work primarily consists of landscapes and the human figure. Both his drawings and paintings deploy a fragmented signature style emphasizing the deconstruction of visual experience. Some of his works can be seen in public spaces, including four murals throughout Denver's downtown area, four portrait commissions that hang in Boettcher Hall, and a large-scale landscape painting that hangs in Douglas County Library's newest branch in Castle Rock. His work has been published by New American Paintings, Art Ltd, Wired Magazine, FastCompany, Forbes, Huffington Post, and most recently on the cover of Artists Magazine.

We pull the RNO list from the city’s website when we send these out.
Can you add that email address to that RNO list if you are a prime RNO contact?
