Dear Friend,
I have good news to report. Our resistance to Donald Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda is working.
We were all outraged when Trump’s DOJ announced plans to steal almost $1.8 billion of your taxpayer money to pay off insurrectionists and his political allies. I immediately called out Trump’s slush fund for the blatant corruption it is.
I was in the gallery on January 6, and the criminals who attacked our Capitol should be in prison, not receiving a payout from our federal government. That’s why I took action to block this crooked scheme by signing on to the No Taxpayer-Funded Settlement Slush Funds Act of 2026, which will stop this theft in its tracks.
Because you and the American people protested this grift so strongly, my colleagues and I forced Congressional Republicans to outright abandon or delay their reckless agenda. Consider this:
- Last night, Speaker Johnson abruptly canceled a Democratic-led vote on a War Powers Resolution to end Trump’s illegal war with Iran because House Republicans didn’t have the votes to avoid handing the president an embarrassing defeat;
- Senate Republicans had no choice but to scrap plans to include $1 billion in funding for Trump’s vanity ballroom project—at a time when families are struggling to afford gas and groceries; and
- House and Senate Republican leaders adjourned their chambers for the weekend without passing their $70 billion package to fund ICE and CBP, which Trump demanded to be on his desk by June 1.
As hard as I’m fighting back against Trump’s rotten agenda, I’m fighting for the issues you and your family care about.
During an Energy & Commerce Committee markup on Thursday, I advanced several important bills out of my committee so they can soon be brought to the Floor for a vote. With causes ranging from investing in critical Down syndrome research, addressing the maternal health crisis, to funding for diseases such as breast cancer, Alzheimer’s, and ALS, these bills will positively impact so many lives. I will continue championing these top health priorities until they become law.
Additionally, last week, I led a resolution affirming the safety and efficacy of the abortion medication mifepristone. This move was urgent because anti-choice extremists are trying to use the courts to restrict access to reproductive care via telehealth.
While the Supreme Court has maintained access to the medication, this fight is far from over. That is why I met with the President of Reproductive Freedom for All, Mini Timmaraju, to strategize about how we protect reproductive freedom, including a path to codifying a nationwide right to abortion access.
Finally, as we head into the Memorial Day weekend, I will be thinking about the brave servicemembers we’ve lost—including some from Colorado—the lives they lived and their legacies that carry forward through today. I hope you have the chance to reflect as well, as you spend time with your family and friends.
