Dear Registered Neighborhood Organization president,

I am pleased to present our 2026 Audit Plan. Each year, we carefully select audit topics based on possible risk, public impact, and community priorities.

Our guiding principle is simple but powerful: auditing what matters. This year’s Audit Plan reflects our continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and equity in how the City and County of Denver manages public resources.

Denver is facing challenging budget decisions. Every dollar must be spent wisely to support essential services and community needs. The audits in this plan are designed to help city leaders and the public understand how funds are allocated and spent, identify inefficiencies, and track whether taxpayer dollars are used effectively.

The 2026 Audit Plan includes reviews of programs and projects that touch nearly every aspect of our city:

  • Homelessness initiatives.
  • The city budget process.
  • Major infrastructure projects.
  • Mental health and addiction services.
  • Airport operations and revenues.

Neighborhood organizations like yours play a vital role in keeping residents informed and engaged in local government. By sharing our 2026 Audit Plan with your members, you help strengthen government accountability and encourage meaningful public participation in how city resources are used. Your voices are important; several resident suggestions made during our summer’s #AuditDenver2026 campaign are incorporated in this year’s audit plan.

I would be honored to meet with your organization to present our 2026 Audit Plan and address any questions you or your members may have. If you are interested in hosting a presentation, please contact my office to schedule a time.

With a focus on auditing what matters, we hope to deliver meaningful results to our constituents. Thank you for your partnership in building a stronger, more transparent, and more equitable Denver.

Sincerely,

Denver Auditor Timothy M. O'Brien, CPA.
