Forest & Burt,

I've been thinking and speaking often of our conversation about the data dilemma you faced (are facing?) for the upcoming hack-a-thon. Developers want to know what is available. The city, forecasting cost associated with releasing data, wants to know which sets developers value most. Here is my advice:
  1. Crime data is always the most popular :^)
  2. Use the hack-a-thon to create an open data catalog
    1. Avazea published source code for one at: https://github.com/azavea/Open-Data-Catalog/
    2. opendataphilly.org and openchattenooga.org use it
  3. Look at other city catalogs for a) how they're set up and b) what data sets are popular there. Here's my list: http://www.delicious.com/prestidigital/city+data+catalog
Happy New Year, all.

Best,
Kevin
