We will probably have a couple of panels to give attendees an idea of what the City is planning with Open 311 and available APIs. If we assemble a panel of open data and City SMEs what would you like to have them talk about?

Would you please say a little more about this meeting generally? It's about Honolulu (city), Open 311 (which is...?), and SMEs? Who's convening the meeting, and for what purpose?

Judi, CityCampHNL is a day event on Dec 3rd. It will be Unconference style but with a couple of panels to kick things off. CityCampHNL is Honolulu centric and we are doing this with the City & County of Honolulu. 

Open 311 is the standard being adopted by cities to accept crowdsourced information. SME is subject matter expert. The C&C is convening the event and we are having Mayor Carlisle kick the session off.

One thing that would be useful is traffic, crowdsourced from people's phones or GPS devices and from Nixle updates. People could check the speed & traffic conditions on various main roads. Other cities have set up programs for real-time updates on available parking spaces. Similarly, I'd like to see the public transport (much of which already has GPS) displayed. Is this a topic worth exploring?

These are great thoughts. I know OTS (The Bus) is working with Google to create an API with GPS information. DTS is also currently working on a RFP for electronic parking meters. We already have this at the Zoo but are looking to expand to China town.
