Thank you Ali and Huda for your nice words and many thanks to all the people who blessed me with their nice words over the phone, messages or emails.
I have been very fortunate to work at King Abdulaziz Cardiac Center and to be one of the people who shared in the start of the program. The place offered me a very fertile area for learning and training in pediatric cardiology. I am enjoying every day at this great center because I am truly blessed to be surrounded by a great team of cardiologists, surgeons, intensivists, anesthetist, nurses and technologists.
The best part of my experience was during the tenure of Dr Riyadh Abu Sulaiman who has been a great team leader, a role model and truly a deed friend. I owe him a lot for giving me the chance to learn from his vast experience in the organizational and leadership skills. He used to push me to share in the administrative responsibilities in the department and he was continuously embracing me with his guidance and advice. He appointed me as a program director for the fellowship and he was involving me in every activity organized by the department.
Dr Riyadh has an amazing enthusiasm for organizing educational activities and the best example is the annual workshop of KACC which gained an excellent reputation over the years. I believe it is not difficult to organize an activity but it is very difficult to- continuously- maintain the high quality performance that Riyadh has been providing. His perseverance was inspirational to the whole team, particularly to myself. After six years of his fruitful tenure Riyadh pushed me to get into the team leader position. It is a very difficult challenge for me, particularly when it is after Riyadh,
As one of our colleagues indicated; Riyadh has been a vigilant champion in the Olympics and he was running with the Olympic Torch for six years. Now he handed the Torch to me where I have to keep running at the same pace he used to do. Actually, I have to keep myself fit and workout every day to be able to maintain his triumph. I was hesitant to accept the challenge but I am comforted by his presence around me and his promise to continue providing me with his support.
Another reason for accepting the challenge is the presence of the great team of KACC, particularly my colleagues in the department (Dr Tamimi, Dr Khatabi, Dr Mesud, Dr Seller, Dr Ghamdi, and Dr Mutairi). They all were, and will continue to be, the main reason for the success of the department, by their endless positive contributions and collaboration. Their relentless endeavor to provide the best medical care and to maintain a lovely working atmosphere is a real blessing that would make this center one of the best in the country. We are very fortunate or probably envied for having such a lovely working atmosphere.
In collaboration with our colleagues in the field of pediatric cardiology all around the country, we will continue to provide the best possible care for the children and adults with congenital heart disease, and we will aim to improve the level of training and practice in the field of pediatric cardiology.
I am asking for the help and guidance from Allah first, then the advice and counselling from all the people who care about me. Please remember me in your prayers and ask Allah to provide me the astuteness for the success.
Best regards,
Fahad Alhabshan
