Subject: Movember is almost upon us. Movember?
Hello,
Mo is slang for Moustache so: Mo + November = Movember.
If you are reading this then you are someone I know in Reno. A male someone I know in Reno that hasn't joined the City of Remo Moustache Growing Team for 2009. It's time for me to remedy this situation as we are just days away from the month-long global moustache event that raises awareness and funds for men's health issues, specifically issues related to prostate and testicular cancer. Some of you participated last year and I want you to know we are bigger and better than ever. For others, this may be the first time you have ever seen the word Movember - I'll get to that in a minute.
First, this email may come as a shock to you. Looking at the address list there are some folks on here that I haven't talked to in quite a while. This is a perfect opportunity for us to catch up ... I am the co-founder of the City of Remo. We are a local team for the Movember campaign - in our third year we are aiming to raise $5,000.00 and pull out all the stops for a month of fun and furry lips. We already have 31 citizens on the team and they have already raised over $300.00 before the event has even begun! Last year the team was 16 strong and pulled in $1,600.00 that went to the Movember Foundation which, in turn, distributed the funds to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. In 2009, the Lance Armstrong Foundation has joined the cause to build on the $47million raised through official worldwide moustache growing campaigns.
The Movember campaign is so much fun and does so much good that I want to share it with you. Here is what you need to do:
* Join our team on movember.com: http://us.movember.com/register/799
* Start Movember 1 clean shaven and use the remainder of the month to grow, flow and show your Mos
* Attend our City of Remo events throughout the month:
- Kickoff at Eclipse Pizza on Movember 1st
- Cinemo Remo ( a special view of Super Troopers ) at Biggest Little City Club on the 11th
- Bowling (mowling?) at Starlite Lanes on the 16th
- A Hats & Jackets night at BLCC
- The annual Virginia City Mo Crawl + old west photos
- (With more to be added soon)
* Spend the days and nights between events talking about your Mo and raising funds through cash donations and movember.com
* Celebrate with your fellow citizens at the month-end Stache Bash at The Sierra Tap House. We have joined forces with the Sierra Tap House, combining their 3 year old event with ours to form a Giant-Super-Robot-Moustache-Party.
I can hear some of your reactions now:
"I already have a beard/moustache"
"My wife/boss/etc will kill me if I grow a moustache"
"I'll look totally stupid with a Mo"
"What difference does it make?"
"I can't actually grow a Mo"[1]
etc etc
These are all just excuses so you don't have to *do* anything. Trust me, my Mo isn't much to look at, and I don't think anyone around me actually likes it but I do it every year. Here are some retorts for you:
"Shave the damn thing off and start over, this time it will mean something"
"They'll get used to the Mo, and if you don't normally have one your Mo will become a reason to talk about these important health issues that men face"
"Yes. You'll probably look stupid with a Mo. We all do. Get over it."
"All money raised in the US stays in the US, benefiting the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation and Movember works with their beneficiaries to ensure that the funding process, as well as the outcomes of the projects are transparent and that progress reports are made available to the Movember participants and public at Movember.com"
"No problem. We have a categories for that: the No-Mo and the Dirtlip"
If you are ready to join just click this link: http://us.movember.com/register/799 and join our team, then go read more over at http://cityofremo.com - it has all of the information about our team and is getting better every day. We are also on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/City-of-ReMo/113264911742?ref=ts and Twitter http://twitter.com/RemoNV
Just take a few minutes, and join the team. Become a Mo Bro. If you know a woman that can help spread the word and support your efforts bring her on as a Mo Sista. The more we have the more we do!
I look forward to laughing at, and loving your Mos.
Don
[1] In the event you cannot grow a Mo, one will be provided for you.
