Katsuhiro Miyamoto, “Architecture as a Vessel of Memory”
Lecture, Thursday, January 30, 2014, 6pm
The Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism at Carleton University, in collaboration with The Japan Foundation, Tokyo, is pleased to present a lecture by the cutting-edge Japanese architect Katsuhiro Miyamoto on Thursday, January 30th, 6:00pm.
Since the mid-1990s, Miyamoto has advanced an architectural practice rooted in traditions of Japanese construction while pushing the limits of formal and structural experimentation. A series of polemical projects, developed after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, have been exhibited at major international art festivals. Miyamoto’s recent efforts include the Shinpukuji Temple Reception Hall (2013) and a competition-winning priest’s quarters at the Chushin-ji temple (2010) in the Japan Alps. More information on his work is found at:

The lecture will take place at the Azrieli School, which is marked as building “AA” on the Carleton campus map:

The O-train and several city buses arrive on campus, and there is plenty of paid parking (the closest lot is P2).
A poster is attached – feel free to circulate it to your colleagues. We look forward to seeing you on this important occasion that brings a leading voice of contemporary Japanese architecture to Ottawa.
