Hello members of CCC,

Some of you may already know this, but I figured I should share. 

The parking lot is no longer proposed to be located at 160 Lees Avenue! Woot! Woot! :) The community's concerns were heard and the City and Ottawa U came to an alternate solution. This is fantastic news for the Ottawa East community and anyone who uses the green space at 160 Lees. Since this item was a topic of discussion at our last CCC meeting I figured I would provide an update and a thank you to those who made their voices heard and helped persuade the City to move this parking lot toward an alternative location.

OK,  there is agreement of both the university and the city that the "LRT parking lot" will NOT be at 160 Lees (see below)  - well done for the many  who helped persuade the parties to change their original proposal.  It's interesting that the university is getting considerably fewer parking spots than the 364 that had been proposed at 160 Lees but, it seems to me, they'll be permanent spots and much better for users of the new stadium / playing field.

I want to particularly thank Christine Loth-Bown who brilliantly led the community's fight, with honorable mentions to Councillor Chernushenko, Chris Osler and the SHCHC team, Catherine Pacella, Carole Landry,  Don Fugler, Laura Mueller of Ottawa East News , Rick Borrowes and all of those who petitioned the mayor and Allan Rock. 

If you want more information on the new proposal go to http://app01.ottawa.ca/postingplans/home.jsf?lang=en and type in "200 lees" then look at the "rationale" PDF ... there is also a very lengthy environmental study on the new site.  We'll have to pay attention to the site plan that gets proposed to ensure that the bike path goes through the new parking lot in a reasonable fashion.
