Dear Friends,
If ever there was a time for radicals to come together to analyze, review and strategize—for the struggle ahead—now is such a time. Workers World Party urges you to join us on Nov. 15 and 16 at its national conference in New York City.
We are witnessing the biggest worldwide economic crisis of the capitalist system since the
Depression of the 1930s. The tumultuous turn of events over the past year, and especially in recent weeks, is unlike any that most of us have experienced in our lifetime.
Developments have catapulted a whole new set of critical questions to the fore:
*How deep is the crisis, and where is it going?
*Will the working class and oppressed peoples, both in the U.S. and around the world, be able to mount a real struggle in their own defense?
*How has this crisis affected the oppressed in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America?
*Will the crisis transform and expand the socialist, communist and other revolutionary organizations and movements?
*As a consequence of the crisis, what is the role of a revolutionary, multinational working-class party in helping the struggle for socialism re-emerge stronger, with advanced prospects, in the new political world environment?
*If Barack
Obama prevails in November to become the first African-American president of the U.S. imperialist government, what issues, questions and challenges will such an unprecedented occurrence present for the Black working class, immigrants, the whole working class and the anti-imperialist movements?
*What will the situation be if Obama does not prevail?
*How will the outcome of the elections impact the deepening capitalist economic crisis, the wars and occupations, and the development of the class struggle, including the need to forge unity against national oppression, women’s oppression and LGBT oppression in the U.S.?
*AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, WHAT PLANS ARE THERE FOR MASS ACTION IN RESPONSE TO THE CAPITALIST ECONOMIC CRISIS?
The conference will feature plenaries, discussion groups, and strategy sessions with activists from across the country representing many different struggles, as well as music and
spoken-word performances. Youth and student activists will be attending; the revolutionary youth group FIST (Fight Imperialism, Stand Together) will play a key role in the weekend's events.
Plan now to join us on the weekend of November 15 and 16 in New York City; we need your participation in this important political and strategic discussion.
We encourage you to register online for the conference by clicking here and to make a generous donation if you can to help with organizing costs. You can go to workersworld.net to get up-to-date information on the schedule, pre-registration, logistics and conference preparation discussion materials.
Hope to see you on Nov. 15 and
16.
