PA oil & gas industry opposes rules to prevent pollution

Tell PA to approve new oil and gas rules!

Dear Nadia,

After years of allowing the oil and gas industry to operate with little accountability, Pennsylvania is finally trying to change the status quo.

For over three years, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has been revising its regulations, developing important protections for Pennsylvanians living with oil and gas. There have been 12 public hearings and residents, industry, environmental organizations, and elected officials submitted nearly 30,000 comments. The draft regulations (known as Chapter 78 for conventional drilling and 78a for unconventional) were revised, and revised again.

But all this isn’t enough for some state legislators. They are trying hard to derail the entire process because they don’t want industry to be regulated at all.

In less than a week, the Independent Regulatory Review Commission (IRRC) will vote on the regulations.

TAKE ACTION: Tell the PA Independent Regulatory Review Commission to approve both Chapter 78 and Chapter 78a regulations!

Thank you,

Nadia Steinzor, Eastern Program Coordinator
